How to remove malware, advertising toolbars and browser add-ons (which antiviruses "miss")

Good time to all visitors!

Today's post will be devoted to the comp. security and protection against adware and malware (which is now embedded in every 5th program, unfortunately 👀).

In general, I should note that most potentially unwanted software does not do anything so "too bad" to disable your system (does not format, does not delete, etc.).

Their main goal is to show the user as much advertising as possible and get some kind of statistics. That is why many users (especially those who only play for a PC) simply do not pay attention to these "little things" and do not clean the system.

However, a number of certain malicious programs can track your actions (or even spy on confidential information and gain access to a number of sites). And this is not good at all, and you never know what will come of it ... 😒

Classic antiviruses (including those built into the new Windows 10 OS) very often simply do not find such malicious programs, and you have to resort to some other utilities ... They, in fact, will be discussed below. 👇

*

Removing malware

If Windows is loading and running

If you "see" the desktop and can install programs, it’s not bad anymore ✔ (because sometimes it is not available due to infection).

STEP 1

For starters, I would recommend installing a modern version of 👉 IObit Malware Fighter on your PC. Why this particular utility:

  • it finds tens of thousands of threats (Trojans, adware and unwanted software, worms, etc.) that many classic antiviruses do not see;
  • can work in parallel with any * of antivirus software (without errors and freezes);
  • protects the entire browser (home page, downloads, plugins, etc.);
  • can just check your system and protect it online!

*

Actually, after installing it - you will need to press only one button "Fix" and the utility will start analyzing your OS. 👇

Next, the program will automatically check and update the database (you need an Internet connection), and then it will scan your Windows OS. As a rule, everything-about-everything takes about 5-10 minutes.

Smart Scan (IObit Malware Fighter)

In my case, there were 4 threats, all of which were removed (3 of them were related to Firefox and Chrome browsers, despite having Windows Defender turned on ...).

Threats Detected 4 (IObit Malware Fighter)

By the way, pay attention to the settings of IObit Malware Fighter: the program automatically starts protecting your home page online, plugins, downloads, DNS and other important things that adware changes so often.

Now no software will be able to register itself in the browser auto-start and show some kind of advertising tabs ...

Download protection and home. browser pages

For those who only want to periodically check whether everything is in order with the system - the "real time" mode is quite easy to disable: just right-click on the utility icon in the tray and click on "Output" . 👌

If it interferes, you can turn it off ...

STEP 2

Specialist. to remove adware, I would also advise you to check the system using the 👉 AdwCleaner utility (fortunately, it does not need to be installed).

Using the program is extremely simple: save and close all your open documents, run the utility and click "Start check" . 👇

Note: after checking, AdwCleaner will forcibly restart your computer!

AdwCleaner - start checking!

AdwCleaner does an excellent job with adware, cleaning all the "infection" from browsers. I recommend everyone to have it in the store (you never know what ...).

If Windows does not start after infection

Preparation

STEP 1

First, we need to "find" a work computer on which to create 👉 a bootable LiveCD-flash drive (note: link to my selection of LiveCDs).

I recommend choosing LiveCD from Sergey Strelets, because it is compatible with almost any modern PC / laptop and is very easy to write: utility ISO to USB already included! 👇

Addition!

This flash drive will allow us to boot Windows from it and perform all the necessary operations to check the system installed on the PC disk.

*

STEP 2

Additionally, on this bootable LiveCD-flash drive (when it is ready), I would recommend writing the following "one-time" anti-virus utilities: Dr.Web CureIt !, Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, AdwCleaner, AVZ.

All of them do not need to be installed and they can be run from "our" flash drive. Links to download programs are given in my last post (👇).

STEP 3

Next, "our" flash drive needs to be connected to the problem PC / laptop and boot from it. To do this, you need to use the Boot Menu 👇 (or change the BIOS settings).

2) How to configure BIOS (UEFI) to boot from a flash drive or disk (CD / DVD, USB, SD)

Check and repair Windows

Having booted from the LiveCD, use either the built-in antiviruses or those that I recommended above. Run them one by one and check the system (in general, there is nothing difficult in such a check, so no further comments here).

Running antivirus from a LiveCD

Next, we need (most likely) to restore the Windows bootloader. For this on LiveCD specials. moved to the START menu Windows recovery tool (👇). We launch it exactly!

Windows Recovery Tool

Then the service menu will open, from which you need to select the item Troubleshooting / Advanced Options / Boot Repair ... See example below.

Next, restart the PC (after removing the USB flash drive in advance) and check if the "problematic" Windows OS starts. If not, boot from the LiveCD again, enter the same menu and click on the item "System restore using a dot ..." .

Startup recovery

If you have created restore points, select one of them and restore the system (note: documents, photos, videos - such a restore does not affect. But you may have to reinstall some programs / drivers).

Restoring your computer to a previous state

As a rule, such "actions" are enough to "revive" Windows.

In extreme cases, using the LiveCD, you can copy all the necessary documents that are on the disk and reinstall the system ...

That's it for now, add-ons on the topic will come in handy!

Happy work!
