How to add the date and day of the week to the clock (time) in the Windows 10 system tray

User question

Hello.

My taskbar in Windows 10 only shows the time (hours and minutes). It is not very convenient and sometimes you have to open the calendar. Do not tell me how to add the current date and day of the week there (I used to have this in Windows 7).

Hello!

Yes, some versions of Windows 10, especially on laptops (with presets from the manufacturer), may display the date and time in a non-standard way. Fortunately, this is easy enough to fix ...

Example - only time is shown in the tray

*

Configuring the date and time display in the Windows 10 tray

STEP 1

1) Right-click (RMB) anywhere on the taskbar - in the menu that appears, go to Taskbar Options .

Taskbar options

2) Next, switch the slider to mode "Off" next to item "Use small taskbar buttons" (if you already have it disabled, enable and disable it again). An example is shown below.

Taskbar - use small taskbar buttons

3) After that, the height of the taskbar row should increase slightly, and in addition to the time, the date will also be displayed (unless, of course, this is disabled in a special way in the parameters, but more on that in step 2 ...).

There is a date!

STEP 2

1) To customize the display of the date and time format in the Windows Control Panel, there is a special. tab. To open it (in any version of Windows 10), you need:

  • press the combination Win + R (the "Run" window will appear);
  • then use the intl.cpl command and click OK.

intl.cpl - setting date, time (time zone)

2) Then the "Region" window will open, in which you can set the interface language, time, date, etc. Open additional. parameters as shown in the screenshot below.

Add. parameters

Note!

You can also open these date and time settings using the Windows Control Panel - tab "Clock and Region" , see the screen below.

Control Panel - Change Date and Time Format / Clickable

4) Go to the tab "Date" and notice the line "Short date" (it depends on it how the date will be displayed in the tray).

Add 4 characters "dddd" to the end of the line and press the button "Apply" (as shown in the screenshot below).

Note: By default, the "Short Date" string uses the format -dd.MM.yyyy

Changing the date format

5) You will immediately notice how the day of the week appears after the date. In my opinion, in the example below, the date has become too long, and I will shorten it a little ✌ ...

The day of the week appeared

6) To do this, change dd.MM.yyyy dddd on the ddd dd.MM.yyyy .

Change the format again

7) As a result, instead of writing the full day of the week (Thursday), we will have an abbreviated version (Thu). See example below.

That's better!

Thus, by changing "this formula" you can customize the date display in the form in which it is convenient for you!

That's all, good luck!
