How to remove Windows 10 from your computer completely!

User question

Hello.

Not so long ago I purchased a new computer, and 2 operating systems were installed on it at once: Windows 7 and 10 (apparently due to the fact that I asked in the order that I needed a "seven" - they put it, but 10 did not began to be deleted).

Now, when I turn on the computer, a menu appears with a choice of system (it doesn't really interfere, but still ...). Worst of all, the 10 is sometimes updated (moreover, it wakes the PC from sleep mode, no settings affect it).

Tell me how to remove Windows 10 from your computer completely? So that it is nowhere to be found: neither on the menu, nor on the disc!

Hello.

I "approximately" understood your question 👌 ... In the note I will give an answer not only to it, but also expand it somewhat (for a wider circle of readers).

So...

Reset or completely remove Windows 10 from disk

What to do before deleting (important!)

👉 First

If you have 2 Windows OS on disk (like the author of the question) and you are going to use one of them, boot into this system and 👉 create a restore point (backup). This "point" may be needed if you accidentally "do" something superfluous (or something goes wrong) ...

Note: to see if you have restore points - click Win + R and use the commandrstrui.

*

👉 Second

Be sure to write down and create a Windows installation USB stick (even if you are not going to reinstall anything).

Creating a bootable USB flash drive Windows 10/7 - instruction

It can be useful in a variety of cases (even when the problem did not arise because of you): for example, electricity "blinks" and the OS will not boot ...

Besides, I would also recommend to have a "spare" 👉 LiveCD-flash drive with Win PE (such a flash drive will allow you to boot any PC, even which does not have a hard disk).

👉 Third

If, when you boot your computer, a "interfering" menu (👇) appears with a list of Windows OS, then it is not at all necessary to format the disks, you can simply edit this menu and make the required OS version boot by default.

For example, if you have 2 operating systems: Windows 7 and 10, then you can configure it so that 7 is always loaded, and 10 only when you manually select it (this way it will not bother you ...)

you can remove one of them from the menu so that the PC always boots the OS of your choice by default

This is done simply:

1) First you need to go to "My Computer" and open add. system parameters (see screenshot below).

Add. system parameters

Further in the tab "Additionally" need to open parameters boot recovery, select the default OS (arrow-3 👇), specify the display time of the OS list (I recommend setting 2-3 seconds), and click OK.

Display OS list 1 sec.!

The issue will be resolved 👌 ...

Option 1: reset Windows 10 settings or roll back the system to a previous version

If you want to uninstall your current Windows 10 due to the fact that it has become buggy (or you recently updated your 7-ku / 8-ku to 10 and you did not like it) - you may first try to return Windows to its original state (reset). 😉

Fortunately, this function is built directly into the OS itself and is quite easy to perform.

First you need to open Windows options - the keyboard shortcut will help Win + i... Then you need to open the section "Update and Security" .

Windows 10 Settings - Open with Win + i

In the tab "Recovery" there will be 2 cherished options:

  • "Reset the computer to its original state" - the current version of Windows will be reset (in fact, something like reinstalling the OS, only saving * your files and documents);
  • "Return to Windows 7/8" - this feature works only for some time after the OS update. If the function is active, you can return to your 7-ke (for example 👇) in the blink of an eye.

You can reset Windows 10 or return to the previous OS

Option 2: installing a fresh OS and formatting the disk

During the installation of Windows OS, you can easily and simply format any of the disk partitions (including with Windows 10). Moreover, it is not necessary to continue the installation further - i.e. you can delete the data section and stop there ... 👌

To do this, you need to connect 👉 a bootable USB flash drive to the USB port of your computer and 👉 boot from it. After that, if everything went well, you will see an offer to select a language ... (ie we have booted from the flash drive and we can start our "process").

Start installation - choose language

Then you need to press several times "next / next" until a window appears with a choice installation type - here you should indicate what is required custom (for advanced users) . 👇

Custom installation

Next, select the partition of the disk with the installed Windows 10 OS and click the button "Delete" (see example below).

Important: all data on this partition of the disk will be deleted (in my case "partition-3"). Those. there will be no Windows 10, no files that were saved on this section!

Select the Windows 10 partition and delete it

After successful completion of the operation, you can either continue with the installation of the new OS, or simply restart the computer and the question will be "closed" (Windows 10 will be completely removed by 100%). 👌

Option 3: remove a disk partition from a LiveCD

This method is good because you can delete any partition of the disk (or format it), even in the most sad cases (when other methods are powerless). In addition, with the help of the LiveCD, you can copy all the necessary files from the disk to other drives (before formatting it).

Of course, first you need to prepare 👉 a bootable LiveCD stick (link to my previous post on this).

*

Next, you will need to 👉 boot from this flash drive (by the way, the desktop and Windows PE itself is very similar to the classic version of the OS 👇).

In my example, I used a LiveCD from Sergey Strelets - he has a shortcut on his desktop for accessing disk management ( Windows Disk Management ). Recommend it and use it!

LiveCD - start disk management

After that, it remains only to select the desired disk, click on it with the right mouse button and specify in the menu "Format" (or "Delete volume" ). Important: all data on this disk will be deleted (make a copy of everything you need in advance!).

Format

By the way, if the standard LiveCD disk management tool suddenly fails to format the disk (and I don’t remember that when it happened), use third-party programs.

For example, "MiniTool Partition Wizard" (if you created the LiveCD recommended by me, then there is a lot of useful things in the START menu 👇).

Other disk tools

Alternative methods are welcome!

All the best!
