The printer prints in stripes: what can be done to fix it

Good day!

Today's note will be about the "sore" problem of any office / department (where, willy-nilly, you have to print a lot of documentation).

In general, print streaks can occur on both laser and inkjet printers. The main problem when appeared. stripes - it is not always easy to unambiguously name their reason (something, of course, can tell their nature: pay attention, these are white unprinted areas, or vice versa - black vertical / horizontal lines).

Be that as it may, in this short note I will give a few of the most common reasons for this "behavior" of the printer, as well as indicate a couple of simple ways to fix them.

Why streaks appear when printing, and how to fix them

The ink on the print head is dry

If you have not used the printer for some time, the ink on the print head could "dry out" (of course, this applies to inkjet printers).

Many printers have specials. function clean the print head .

To start it, you need to open 👉 the Windows control panel and go to the section "Hardware and Sound \ Devices and Printers" ... Next, you should open properties problem printer. 👇

Printer properties

In properties, a lot depends on the printer model and its driver. In most cases, it is enough to open the tab "Service" ("Service") and select the item "Cleaning the Print Head" ... Then the printer will "buzz" a little and the print quality will become noticeably better.

Note: After cleaning, it is recommended to also perform a calibration operation.

Cleaning and calibration!

Important!

Not all printers can perform head cleaning themselves. Some older models do not have specials for this. pumps. In this case, cleaning is carried out manually (see the operating instructions for your device).

Low ink / toner

By the way, pay attention to the nature of the stripes. Often "white" streaks (unprinted areas) can indicate low ink (toner). See example below. 👇

To save the situation for a while, you can take out the cartridge from the printer and shake it slightly (important for a laser printer). The toner inside the cartridge will be evenly distributed, and the printer will be able to print some more sheets as normal. quality.

The nature of the stripes - white on the background of the main text

As for an inkjet printer, it usually notifies in advance that the ink is left on the "n-th" number of sheets. Sometimes head alignment (see above) helps to extend the life and print several more. sheets.

Low ink

But the solution in general is one - to change the cartridge (refill!).

Paint (toner) got on the fur. printer parts

This problem usually occurs with old printers (which have had their cartridges refilled / changed more than once). You can eliminate this cause in different ways (of course, it also depends on the model of your printer):

  • use the specials. cleaning sheets and kits for the printer (purchased separately in specialty stores);
  • open the printer cover and see with your own eyes - if the remains of toner / ink are visible on the rollers and fur. parts - gently wipe them with a dry cotton swab (by the way, it can be slightly moistened with window cleaner (alcohol is highly not recommended!)). 👇

Please note that foreign objects, such as dust, pieces of paper, etc., could have gotten onto the shaft and rollers. All this can also cause paper jams and appear. stripes on printouts.

The cartridge began to "pass" toner (ink)

Most often this is a problem with cartridges that have already been refilled more than once. Toner or ink may seep through the holes (gaps) slightly and onto the paper when you print.

Shake the cartridge lightly

It is very simple to check the integrity of a laser printer cartridge: just remove it from the printer and shake it slightly over a white sheet of paper. If you see black powder pouring onto the sheet - the conclusion is obvious, it's time to change the cartridge!

Replace cartridge!

Malfunction of the print head

For starters: I can't help but note that in rare cases, 2-3 times head cleaning, nozzle check, and calibration (using the standard function built into the printer software) helps to restore the operation of the device for a while.

But this applies only to those "malfunctions" that are caused by dried paint. In other cases, it will need to be changed.

By the way, for many inkjet printers, the print head is in the cartridge (and, of course, when you replace it, this problem is automatically solved). However, printers from Epson have a separate head, and its replacement is often very expensive (sometimes it is cheaper to replace the printer itself with a new one).
