Calculator of currencies, length, volume, area, etc. in Windows 10 (+ alternative to the built-in calculator: with the ability to copy any numbers and formulas to the calculation window)

Good time.

If earlier (for at least 20 years) a simple calculator was built into Windows, which only allowed performing standard actions (root, degree, amount, difference, etc.) - in the new Windows 10 the calculator has been significantly improved! 👌

Now it can be used to easily calculate and transfer an amount from rubles to dollars (or to any other currency), convert pounds to kilograms (and vice versa), square meters to square centimeters, etc.

In general, now the calculator has become a very convenient and necessary thing for everyday calculations (I think more than once, many were faced with the need to transfer one measure to another, for example, when studying (solving problems), repairing, traveling abroad, etc.).

Below in the article, I will consider some points regarding the "calculator" case in more detail 😉).

👉 Close to the subject!

A simple way to solve math equation on your phone: with x, sine, cosine, logarithm, etc. To help students and parents!

*

👉 Launching the "new" calculator (Windows 10)

Regular calculator (appearance)

Method number 1: the most obvious and fastest way is to open the START menu, find the letter "K" among the list and open the application (see screen below 👇).

Starting the calculator from the START menu

*

Method number 2: if your START does not open, or in the list of applications "Calculator" no - use an alternative method:

  1. press the key combination Win + R;
  2. enter the command "calc" (without quotes) and press Enter.

    Launching the calculator via Win + R

👉 Important!

If you don't have this on your system, you can install it from the official Microsoft store (link).

👉 Calculator to convert one currency to another

In order to convert the usual form of the calculator (and by default it starts just like that) to a more "interesting version" - click on the icon with "three" lines.

Then a list of the most different options will appear:

  • engineering;
  • calculating dates;
  • work with currency;
  • calculation of areas;
  • volume, length, etc.

In our case, you need to choose "Currency" (see the screen below 👇).

Currency

Further, it is enough to indicate the amount in dollars - and it will instantly be converted into rubles (for example).

Important note: an Internet connection is required for the current exchange rate!

To update the exchange rate - next to the rate there is a link "Update rates", just click on it ...

We convert dollars to rubles

Please note that the reverse operation can also be performed: indicate the amount in rubles (see example below 👇).

Reverse operation

I will add that the choice of currencies is very extensive: ruble, euro, dollar, franc, rupee, lira, etc. The list of countries is very long, see the example in the screenshot below. 👇

👉 Speed

Also a very useful tab. It can be useful for many students, for example. The calculator can convert the speed from "kilometers per hour" to "meters per second" in the blink of an eye.

Speed

*

👉 Area

Acre, apt. miles, hectares, sq. kilometers, sq. centimeters, etc. By the way, the calculator shows when calculating how many palaces can be built on such and such a territory 👀.

Area

Area - hectares per sq. meters

*

👉 Temperature

Three scales are used: Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin. See the screenshot below for an example. 👇

Temperature

*

👉 Weight and mass

Kilograms, hectograms, pounds, ounces, etc.

👉 Length

I think that those who have ever bought a TV or monitor have come across the fact that its size (diagonal) is set in inches.

But how to translate it into centimeters - you can't remember right away ?! It is now very easy to do this with a calculator in Windows (see example below 👇).

In addition to inches and centimeters, there are: yards, microns, feet, meters, nanometers, etc.

Length - inches to cm.

👉 Alternative calculator 👈

And yet, no matter how the built-in Windows calculator has been improved, so far it has several drawbacks (in my opinion):

  • you cannot just copy a number from a web page (for example) and paste it into the calculator (if the number is fractional, the calculator will lose the "comma"). This greatly interferes with calculations;
  • you can't write a large formula right away, and you can quickly and easily edit it along the way;
  • sensitivity to "comma": you cannot use "dot" to set a decimal number (this is also very distracting);
  • you cannot save your formulas for constant calculations (quite often you have to count the same thing, and saving the formula once would make the work easier).

In search of a calculator devoid of these shortcomings, I tried dozens of different applications for calculations (including even downloaded those calculators that had not been supported by the developer for 10 years).

And in my opinion, the "Engineering Calculator" (its official name) is devoid of these shortcomings. The screen of its main window is shown below (note that I add two numbers with a point and a comma - the calculator accepts them normally).

Engineering calculator (alternative)

Noted would be the "calculate expression" window (where numbers are entered for calculation): it is a text field that can be edited at any time (very convenient).

For example, you can easily put the entered sum of two numbers in parentheses and add one or two more actions.

You can download the "Engineering Calculator" from the software portal: //www.softportal.com/ (there is currently no download link on the developer's official website).

Generally, all other standard calculations and capabilities in it differ little from other similar software.

However, I would highlight several "goodies" separately: the presence of a calculation protocol (you can always return to the previous formula), the ability to calculate text files, work with lists of expressions, function graphs, integrals, etc.

Calculations

I would also note the possibility of creating your own functions, the built-in reference of units of measurements and constants.

Workplace

Various quantities required for calculations (reference)

All this together makes this calculator mega-convenient for everyday calculations (even despite its simple appearance).

That's all for now ...

Happy work!
