How to know if it will rain, thunderstorm? Check out the precipitation map!

Good day!

Autumn has come (😢), and it seems that it is going to rain outside my window ... Actually, he inspired the idea to sketch this small note (which, perhaps, does not fit into the usual format of the blog topics covered ...).

Nevertheless, we still live in an interesting time - technologies do not stand still, and now even in Russia several modern radars (domestic production) have been installed, which allow monitoring cloudiness and precipitation in real time (which most likely helps to recognize dangerous squalls of wind, thunderstorms, etc.).

Of course, we can also see some of the data (which cannot but rejoice ...). Below we will try to find out if it will rain (and if so, how strong ...).

So...

Where to see the rainfall map and learn about rain in advance

Option 1: RainViewer

Service: //www.rainviewer.com/ru/

Mobile app (Android): //play.google.com/

Precipitation Map - RainViewer Service

RainViewer is a special. a service that collects data from meteorological radars around the world (USA, China, the European part of Russia, etc.). Based on the data received, the service builds a map with precipitation and shows its movement (moreover, it informs whether there will be a thunderstorm with a downpour, or light drizzling rain). In general, one of the most informative in this regard. 👌

The intensity of precipitation is shown on the map in different shades: light blue-green - light drizzle; orange-red - heavy thunderstorm ().

By the way, the mobile application can automatically warn you about all bad weather (1-3 hours).

Option 2: WINDY.com

Service: //www.windy.com/

Mobile app (Android): //play.google.com/

Rain, Thunderstorm - Animated Maps from WINDY.com

This service differs from the others in its functionality and graphical component: you can choose what interests you in the menu on the right (temperature, thunderstorms, wind, etc.) - and areas painted in different colors will immediately appear on the map.

Actually, focusing on them - you can easily see where the bad weather is moving. The functionality of the mobile application is not inferior to the website (note: if you have a weak CPU on your phone, it may freeze on the interactive map).

Option 3: Yandex weather

Service: //yandex.ru/pogoda/

Mobile app (Android): //play.google.com/

Yandex weather: a screenshot of the precipitation map

Fully Russian-language service from Yandex. Allows you to very quickly find out the state of affairs in terms of precipitation, temperature, wind, pressure ... (there is a convenient switch in the menu at the top)

In my humble opinion, their maps are excellent, but precipitation forecasts come with some delay (at least when compared with RainViewer). It may so become that you will know about the rain when it starts to drizzle (and not in 1-3 hours ...).

I also cannot help but note that they have a very "prudent" and convenient mobile application that daily shows a weather widget for the near future ...

Option 4: Lightning Maps

Service: //www.lightningmaps.org/

Screenshot from Lightning Maps

This service exclusively predicts thunderstorms and lightning. Those areas of the map where it is not safe now are marked with orange-red circles (👆).

By the way, the site has animation and you can see where the thundercloud is heading (if towards your area, then you won't have to count on good weather ...).

Option 5: "naukasting" from the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia

Service: //meteoinfo.ru/nowcasting

Precipitation forecast for the next 2-6 hours / screenshot from the website of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia

What is interesting about the service: in addition to displaying the current weather, it can predict heavy showers and storms in 2-6 hours with a fairly high accuracy.

How do they do it? The fact is that the Hydrometeorological Center, using its models and extrapolation of the latest trends (revealed during meteorological observations), "tries" to simulate a precipitation map (in fact, it is available at the link above).

In general, it is not always easy to predict gusty winds and heavy showers (due to their short "life" period). But nevertheless, something today (thanks to modern technologies) is being built ...

Signs for rain 👌

Maps are maps, but in addition to modern technologies, there are also some other points by which it is possible to predict bad weather with a good probability (and many old people do it with success). I have collected some of the most "accurate" signs below ... 👇

1-Swallows fly low, 2-bubbles in puddles

  1. Low-flying birds (👆) are a strong harbinger of rain! (the fact is that before the rain, the air becomes wetter and the wings of insects become heavier - they begin to fly lower, and birds rush after them ...). By the way, they usually look at the swallows ...;
  2. If the night dew does not dry out for a long time, then with a high probability there will be heavy rain and thunderstorms;
  3. Sparrows bathe in dust en masse - to rain;
  4. The birds fell silent and stopped chirping - wait for the thunder;
  5. Earthworms crawl out of the ground before a strong thunderstorm;
  6. If during the rain large bubbles are visible on the puddles, this is a harbinger of prolonged rain (👆);
  7. If the moon is pale and its edges are not clear - this is for rain (if its contours are clean and bright - for good weather);
  8. If your joints begin to hurt for no reason, your back is a harbinger of a sharp change in weather (usually older people notice this);
  9. The flowers began to smell strong, and the sun was bleeding - to heavy rain;
  10. If a strong wind blows in the first days of April, expect heavy rains in June!

*

Also many have noticed that if you take an umbrella with you, then the chance to get caught in heavy rain decreases several times (usually, you don't have to get it out - as if it had rained everywhere, and there was a small "window" above you 😉).

*

By the wayIt is believed that if it suddenly rained on your wedding day, during the beginning of your trip, or on a fishing trip, this is a good sign and a harbinger of good luck!

*

This is all for now, I bow to this ...

By the way, don't forget to take an umbrella! ..

Good luck!
