Computer games: what is the use of them? What good can the game teach, and is gambling so bad ...

Good day!

Today's article will be devoted to games, or rather, attitude towards them, about the benefits that they can bring to our lives ...

Recently, many people have been mercilessly criticizing computer games. They say that the younger generation spends a lot of time following them, they do not learn anything, they do not strive for something high, but this is generally called the disease "gambling addiction", and so on.

In fact, in my opinion, not everything is so bad. It's just that many people omit the positive aspects, especially the older generation (who did not have such gadgets in their childhood). In this article, I would like to act as an advocate (defender) of game lovers, and speak out about the benefits that they get by spending time at their favorite pastime!

So...

On the benefits of computer games

Education and training

Perhaps I'll start with the main thing - any computer game, in addition to having a good time in it, teaches you something new (though no one thinks about it). Moreover, both children and adults learn new things.

For example, take a popular logic game like tetris (this also includes various snakes, buildings, etc.). It would seem, what benefit can this game give?

In fact, you train attentiveness, the speed of reaction of the hands (and in general the reaction), the ability to anticipate the situation 1-2 steps ahead, and visual memory. All of this is especially useful for children.

Tetris (very popular game)

They will object to me, they say, that the majority does not play Tetris and snakes, but in various shooters or, in general, network games (Tanks, Warcraft, etc.). There is something to add here too ...

First, in such games, in order to be successful, you need to develop the skill planning (i.e., accumulate gold, or any other currency, depending on the game, think when and how to do something, buy, etc.).

Secondly, in many of these games, it is very difficult to achieve something alone - you have to unite in groups with people, which means that you need to be able to communicate correctly, negotiate, come to compromises, give in (communication skill is also important!).

Thirdly, because in them you communicate - then you learn to quickly type on the keyboard. Agree that in the modern World, where computers surround us everywhere, this skill is clearly not useless!

WOW (popular multiplayer game)

In a separate category, I would put various strategy games (there are both economic and global, and general ones). Games like this can help mathematics, and indeed, in the skill of economical management of the economy (so to speak, to live within one's means).

This is in the game, if you go broke, you can easily restart the company and start over - you can't do that in life and the consequences are much more dire! Many people, due to loans (often taken from the inability to plan and calculate their actions economically) find themselves in very difficult life situations. Probably, it is better when a person, through a game, can work out this skill, so necessary for him, in life.

Civilization - computer game strategy

Well, the last category of games, which I cannot fail to mention, is quests (in which it is necessary to solve some problems step by step in order to move on)! Perfectly develop logic, thinking and attentiveness. Solving the riddle, looking closely at every detail on the screen, searching for the most subtle objects, these skills are perfectly trained!

Teaching foreign languages (for example, English)

I decided to make teaching foreign languages a separate category. In fact, many of those who have studied a foreign language will confirm that it is sometimes very difficult to force yourself to learn new words, memorize something, etc.But imagine installing your favorite game in English (say) - learning the language becomes much more interesting!

First, you will already know how to translate many subjects. Secondly, many meanings of words can be guessed from the context of the game. Thirdly, the learning process will be interesting, which means you will not abandon it! It is much more interesting to look for a new word in the dictionary, tk. you need it to go further in the game (and after going further you will see a dozen more new words!). This kind of "dependence" allows you to master and learn the language much faster!

Relief of fatigue, improvement of mood, pleasant pastime

After a hard day at work (or school), many of us, having exhausted our nerves, continue to wind ourselves up in the evening, not allowing the body to rest and relax. Meanwhile, starting to play your favorite game, you yourself do not notice how in some 5-10 minutes of time you forget about many problems, and after an hour of pleasant pastime, your mood also improves.

And having improved the mood, by the way, there is a desire to do other useful activities: go for a walk, meet friends, visit loved ones, etc.

After a hard day - there is no mood even to prepare for the New Year ...

I think many have heard the famous saying that "all diseases are due to the nerves ...". Calming the nervous system in time - you can avoid many other diseases, i.e. an hour of your favorite game is like a sedative (and life extension)! And, I think that in this regard, there are not so many other hobbies in human life that can argue with computer games.

You can fix your health

In addition to improving mood and relieving stress (nervous tension, which I spoke about above), games can improve health in other ways. For example, if you hurt your hand, then typing, doing something at the computer (including playing), you are great at developing your hands, fingers, and some muscle groups. Naturally, this all has a positive effect on their condition.

I will also add that many with the help of games got rid of other, much more dangerous (at least in my opinion) addictions: alcohol, drug, severe depression, etc.

New acquaintances

To pass games (especially for networked ones) you have to often communicate with other people. And it is not uncommon when people find good friends and acquaintances even in other countries! I'm not even talking about the fact that many created families, having met in any computer game.

Dating is a great opportunity that games provide

By the way, sometimes such acquaintances are very helpful in life, for example, it is not uncommon for such a "network" friend to help you out in difficult times much more than even your relatives! So that in games you can find people very close in spirit and hobbies (after all, if they also came to this game, they got in your way - it is very likely that they are somewhat similar to you ...).

*

You can make money on this (directly or indirectly)

Yes! With the help of games you can earn money, you never know where you will find, and where you will lose ...

Note that I do not mean gambling, because these are odd jobs, and very dangerous ones too!

The point is that very often the passion for games leads people to some related specialties. For example, one of my acquaintances studied well, graduated from graduate school, and as a result, his hobby for games led him to a design business: he once liked to draw various characters from games (his studies have nothing to do with this topic). Another example, his hobby for games led a good friend to programming - he got a second degree, and changed his profession (it also happens ...).

Direct and indirect earnings in games

In fact, there are many options: some become professional players, participate in tournaments, etc. Others, pump various skills and sell game currency for real money. Still others, they play games where there is an opportunity (upon achievement of certain merits) - to withdraw the game currency into real money.Someone else begins to assemble gaming PCs, understands hardware, advises on assemblies, etc.

Nobody says that directly all of the above is a reliable profession for years. However, in addition to the main profession (or work), you must agree that it is not at all bad to have such a part-time job (especially, in our not easy time). Combine, so to speak, the pleasant with the necessary for life!

A few more words ...

And finally, in defense of those who like to play, I will say that many people (there are those who criticize them among them!) Spend a lot of time in unnecessary and even harmful things even without games! Someone watches all serials in a row, others - discuss and "wash the bones" of each acquaintance, the third - sit in the porches, painting the walls. Is this a better occupation?

But in general, everything is good in moderation. No one has yet determined the measure, but I agree with the opinion that if a person does not have any occupations and interests in general except for games, then this is not entirely normal (and yes, here it is probably appropriate to talk about "gambling addiction").

PS: It is worth noting that I am not a psychologist and do not have a medical education, so everything that is written above is a personal, philistine point of view on the problem of gambling addiction. Perhaps I am not quite right about something, and people from medicine are much more versed in this issue ...

That's all. Additions on the topic are welcome.

Good luck!
