We analyze Wi-Fi networks from an Android phone: find out the range (distance to the router), free channels, MAC address, encryption type, etc. characteristics

Good time!

When setting up and optimizing the operation of a Wi-Fi network, sometimes it is necessary to clarify certain data (for example, which channels were occupied by your neighbors, which DNS is currently being used, etc.).

All this can be quickly done right from the phone (which in some cases is more convenient than being distracted by a PC).

Actually, in this modest article I decided to give 3 small handy applications that allow you to solve this problem. 👌

*

Note: by the way, these applications also allow you to "be curious": for example, walking around an apartment with a phone, you can try to determine which neighbors have which names of Wi-Fi networks, what settings they have set, etc.

How to find out a little more about the Wi-Fi networks that surround us

👉 Option 1

Wi-Fi Analyzer app (link to Play Market)

After installing and launching the application, it will automatically show you all Wi-Fi networks that can be "caught" (based on your location) on the first screen.

Please note that next to the name of the network, the number of meters to the signal source (Wi-Fi router). Walking through the rooms (moving the phone in hand) - it will be possible to understand which neighbors - which networks belong. 👌

Wi-Fi analyzer - determine the radius of the network

Next, I would recommend opening the section on channels (icon with asterisks 👇). The application will automatically find the most free channels and offer them to you (very useful when setting up a router).

Note: if you specify the same channel as your nearest neighbors, this may affect the speed and stability of your Wi-Fi network ...

Best New Channels to Create a Wi-Fi Network

In the tab "Access points" (the rightmost one in the menu) all networks are presented: their names, MAC addresses, encryption types, channels, signal levels, etc. 👇

👉 Option 2

Network Analyzer app (link to Play Market)

Another solid application that will help you learn a lot about both the current Wi-Fi network (to which you are connected) and its "neighbors" ...

For example, during the first launch, the "Information" tab will open in which: IP-address, netmask, DNS-servers, etc. will be presented. 👇

Connection Information (Net Analyzer)

In the tab "Wi-Fi Signal" all the ins and outs about the surrounding Wi-Fi networks will be presented: names, device models (Qtech, Tenda, etc.), encryption types, channels, signal strength, network frequencies, etc.

By the way, I would also advise you to use the tab "LAN Scan" - with the help of it you can find out who is connected to your Wi-Fi network (what if a "good" neighbor has connected to it and is spending your traffic? 😉).

Note: in the "LAN Scan" tab, be guided by the name and model of the devices.

👉 Option 3

Wi-Fi Analyz app (link to Play Market)

If suddenly the previous applications did not work correctly for you, then, as an analogue, you can advise it - "Wi-Fi Analyz".

In fact, it has all the same functions in its arsenal (it may even be easier to perceive the information, since all the numbers are shown immediately in the first window 👇).

Access Points - Wi-Fi Analiz App

By the way, pay attention to the tab "Channel rating" : in our page it is allowed to use channels 1 to 13, and in America (for example) from 1 to 11. This may be relevant if you use equipment that is not localized for our country ...

Channel rating: best channels 11, 12, 13 (for my conditions)

As for the graphical display of channels and their radius, everything is no frills here (as well as other applications).

Additions on the topic are welcome (thanks in advance)!

Well, I have everything on my sim for now, good luck!
