Good day!
Nowadays, a lot of information is distributed in ISO images (for example, various options for installation and boot disks, collections of programs, music, etc.).
By adding information to an image, you get a number of benefits:
- firstly, it is easier and faster to transfer it (one file can be copied faster than hundreds of small ones);
- secondly, the files in the image are more protected from accidental editing or infection (for example, from the same viruses);
- thirdly, no one will accidentally break the structure or rename the files.
In this article, I want to show with a few simple examples the process of creating an image from folders and files (this is the first option), and creating an ISO from a regular CD / DVD disc (this is the second option). I think that the information will be useful for everyone who often works with ISO images ...
👉 To help!
If you do not understand very well what a disk image is (virtual disk drive, etc. concepts), I recommend that you familiarize yourself with this help article.

Create an ISO image
For work we need two small programs: CDBurnerXP and UltraISO. With the help of them, you can perform almost any action with ISO-images. I will show my examples of work in these programs.
CDBurnerXP
Official website: //cdburnerxp.se/
A simple, free and at the same time effective utility for creating and burning images to discs. In addition, it allows you to burn ordinary discs with data, music, etc. In general, an excellent replacement for the expensive NERO package ...
By the way, it works in all versions of Windows, there is a portable version that does not need installation (which is very convenient удобно).
UltraISO
Official website: //www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/
One of the best programs for working with ISO images: you can edit them on the fly, compress (to save space), burn to physical discs, and create them yourself. In addition, it allows you to write boot (installation) images to flash drives and disks. In general, an irreplaceable utility for working with the ISO format!

From folders and files
#
Option 1: using CDBurnerXP
Run the program and select the first line "Data disc" , click "OK" .
CDBurnerXP - data disc
Then, on the left side of the window, you will see all your disks, folders with documents, etc. (as in Explorer): you need to select the files and folders you need and add them to the project (see the screen below, the button "Add" ). The added files and folders will be displayed at the bottom of the window.
Adding folders and files to disk - CDBurnerXP
After all files have been added, click "File / Save Project as ISO Image" .
Save project as ISO image
Then you should specify the location on the disk (directory) where the image will be saved.
Save as ISO
Actually, this is how easy it is to create an ISO image in a few steps.
By the way, if you decide to burn it to a disc, you can also do this using CDBurnerXP: just in the start menu of the program, select "Burn ISO Image" .

In the next menu, specify the path to your image, recording device, recording speed (plus other options, if necessary), and start recording (screen below).

Option 2: with UltraISO
We launch the program and first of all we change the disk name to the required one (it can be anything, but I would recommend using the Latin alphabet).
UltraISO - set a name to the disk
Further, at the bottom of the window, an explorer window is presented, from which you need to transfer to the top those folders and files that you want to add to the ISO file. An example is shown in the screenshot below.
Add files and folders to the project
When all files have been added, click on "File / Save As ..." .
Save as...
Next, specify the file name and directory where the image will be saved.
Save ISO file as
In general, that's all, the image is ready (you will have to wait a while (depending on the size of the resulting file))!

From CD / DVD
#
Option 1: using CDBurnerXP
1. First insert the CD / DVD into your CD-ROM drive.
2.Then start CDBurnerXP, in the first start menu of the program, select "Copy disc", click "OK".
CDBurnerXP - copy disc
3. Then you need in the graph "Drive unit" specify the letter of your real physical CD-ROM drive, select where the image will be saved (also specify the type of image (you can leave the default ISO)), and start copying.

4. All that remains is to wait until the disk is completely copied to your HDD. I guess there is nothing more to consider here ... 👌

Option 2: with UltraISO In principle, in UltraISO, everything is done in the same way. 1. First, insert the disc into the drive. 2. Next, in the UltraISO program, click on "Tools / Create CD Image ..." ... An example is shown below. UltraISO - tools, create image 3. Then indicate the location where the image will be saved (see item 1 on the screenshot below), indicates the format (for example, ISO, see item 2), and press the button "To do" . Create CD / DVD image 4. It remains only to wait for the end of the copying process. The time mainly depends on the amount of information on the disk, and the speed of reading the information. UltraISO - copy process * 👉 Note! If you want to burn an ISO image to a USB flash drive, I recommend that you read another article of mine, the link below. Instructions: writing ISO to a USB flash drive - //ocomp.info/kak-zapisat-obraz-iso-na-fleshku-2-sposoba.html There, by the way, the UltraISO utility is also used, plus another interesting program is being considered - PowerISO (a fairly powerful tool for working with images). I recommend to review! * This concludes the article, successful and quick creation ... All the best! 👋 First publication: 28.12.2017 Correction: 02/10/2020
