How to find out the model of the motherboard of a computer, laptop

Greetings to all!

When solving some problems with a computer (or laptop), you need to know the model of the motherboard (for example, to find and update drivers, or in order to determine how and what the device supports). Often, such a need arises after reinstalling Windows, when you need to download drivers for the chipset and sound.

It's good if you still have the documents that came with the purchase of a computer (but as practice shows, in most cases, either they cannot be found, or they are no longer at all 😢). In this article, I will provide some simple and quick ways to determine the model of the motherboard (in English - motherboard, mainboard).

So...

5 ways to find out your motherboard model

Using special utilities

In my opinion, this is one of the easiest and fastest ways to find out all its characteristics about a computer (and not just a motherboard). There are quite a few such utilities, I will recommend a few of them.

Remark! For the best utilities to view your computer's specifications, see this article: //ocomp.info/harakteristiki-kompyutera.html

AIDA64

A simple and irreplaceable utility when working at a computer. Allows you to find out all the ins and outs in the blink of an eye: processor, OS, mat. board, component temperature, hard drives, etc.

In our case, it is enough to open the section "Computer / summary information" (see screenshot below). By the way, the program does not need to be installed - it has a portable version (for example, you can write it to a USB flash drive and run it from it).

AIDA64 - information about the computer (CPU, motherboard, etc.)

CPU-Z

Another popular utility for viewing the characteristics of a computer. In it, you just need to open the "Mainboard" tab, and then the program will show all the information about your board (note: Mainboard is a motherboard translated from English).

View in Windows Properties

You can see the model of the motherboard in Windows itself. True, sometimes Windows displays information opposite this item. "Not available" ... Therefore, if you do not succeed in finding out in this way, go to the next ...

First press the key combination WIN + R and enter the command msinfo32 ... Click on Enter (see screenshot below).

msinfo32 - View computer information

Next, in the window that opens, view all the properties about your system. The list should contain information about many devices: BIOS version, system name, Windows OS information, motherboard model, processor, system folders, etc.

msinfo32 - Model mat. fees

Besides the team msinfo32 can be used dxdiag (also by calling the menu " Execute ", see the example above). Please note that in this case you will be able to find out the manufacturer and model of your device (which, by the way, is more than enough when dealing with a laptop).

 ❸ Command line view

This method is good for its versatility (so that the command line works even in the deadliest Windows) and reliability: it almost always works.

How to run command line:

  • you can find the link in the menu START ;
  • in Windows 10 - you can right-click on the " START "and in the pop-up list select running command line ;
  • you can press a combination of buttons Win + R , then enter the command cmd and press Enter (this is a universal option!).

Find out the model mat. boards in BIOS

In the BIOS, you can not only change the boot settings, time, date, configure equipment, etc., but also get information on any piece of hardware (note: the amount of information about the hardware depends on your BIOS version).

In order not to repeat myself, I will give links here right away:

  • how to enter BIOS - //ocomp.info/kak-voyti-v-bios.html
  • hotkeys for entering BIOS - //ocomp.info/goryachie-klavishi-dlya-vh-bios-boot-menu.html

For example, if you entered the BIOS mat. Gigabyte motherboards: just press the F9 key - and detailed information about it will appear.

BIOS - motherboard information

I also recommend focusing on the first screen that appears after turning on the computer - it also often displays information about the mat. board.

❺  Visual inspection of the mat itself. fees

One of the most reliable ways to find out the model of a motherboard is to look at its markings. True, this method has its drawbacks: it is longer than other methods; more difficult (especially when it comes to a laptop, because it is much more difficult to disassemble it than to open the lid of a PC system unit).

Therefore, personally, I would recommend this method if you are dealing with a PC, or for some reason other methods did not work ...

Almost every motherboard has a model marking: usually it is located somewhere along the edges or in the center. It is simply impossible to notice it!

Note! Everything that is written above refers to branded manufacturers: Asus, Gigabyte, etc. When it comes to cheap Chinese junk, it can be anything ...

I have everything on this ...
