How to clean your computer from garbage to speed up work - instructions

Good hour everyone!

Have you ever thought that "junk" files on your computer can seriously affect its performance? 👀

After all, it's customary here: I played the game for a week, and then it lies on the disk for six months or a year, with thoughts "may be needed"... The same applies to many other applications.

As a result, when the computer is turned on and working, something is constantly blinking: messages appear, some of the software checks for updates, offers to download newer versions, there are a lot of shortcuts on the desktop that distract attention and take time ... 😢

In this article, I propose to clean up these Augean stables (that is, to clean the computer of debris and speed up its work).

By the way, I noticed that this article is visited not only by those users who want to remove software "garbage", but also those who are struggling with dust 😉. For them, I have a separate article on my blog, I recommend it.

Auto-cleaning utilities

At all, it is recommended to clean your computer regularly - for example, 1-2 times per month (conditional figure, depending on the intensity of equipment use). With a regular procedure, you yourself will not notice how your work will be done faster, and you will spend less time on routine. 👌

I recommend cleaning your computer using the utilities below.

First, they do the cleaning procedure automatically (you don't need to press anything yourself, the programs are smart enough and work by themselves); second, they do it faster than the standard Windows cleaner; third, they clean up more garbage than, again, standard Windows software.

However, the choice is yours, I'll show you both!

👉 Note!

I also recommend that you familiarize yourself with the list of programs for optimizing Windows.

  2. Screen 2 (defense);
  3. Screen 3 (acceleration tab).
One of the best comprehensive Windows service programs:

  • removes almost all junk files from the disk: temporary files, leftover files from remote programs, empty folders, etc.;
  • cleans and optimizes the system registry;
  • closes holes and unsafe settings in Windows;
  • configures Windows to work optimally on your PC;
  • defragments the disk;
  • fixes errors of shortcuts etc.

In general, this program replaces several utilities for PC maintenance. I recommend to review!

 2Wise care

Screen 1 (main window: registry cleaning, optimization and compression)

A specialized program for removing garbage and cleaning the registry. It will help you quickly and easily remove all "unnecessary" from the system, fix errors, optimize the OS.

Due to such seemingly simple actions, a performance increase is achieved ...

The program is free, works in Windows 7, 8, 10 (x32, x64).

3CCleaner

Screen 1 (registry repair, error correction)

Screen 2 (garbage cleaning)

A very famous program for cleaning your computer from various types of junk files. It allows you to delete:

  • browser cache (temporary files that help the browser to load pages that you often visit faster);
  • temporary files on disk;
  • erroneous entries in the registry (the so-called "tails" - the remaining old entries from the software that has been removed long ago)
  • unused programs and much more.

The utility is completely in Russian and there is a free version. Works in all Windows versions: XP, 7, 8, 10!

👉 Example of garbage disposal

As I said a few lines earlier, in my opinion it is better to use a comprehensive utility for computer maintenance (for example, 👉 Advanced SystemCare - the first in the table above).

Below I will show with an example how many steps and how work is done to optimize and clean Windows.

*

1) First, we launch the program and press the START button (see the screenshot below 👇). By the way, at the bottom of the window, you can see that the program reports the presence of an automatic mode based on AI!

System Care - one START button - and your computer will be faster!

2) The program will present you with a report shortly. In my case: the security and performance of the laptop was average, and the stability was poor (hence the rare freezes 👀).

By the way, on the left will be shown how many errors can be fixed, how much "garbage" can be removed, and so on. In general, everything is simple - you only need to press one button " Fix ".

Issues found after scanning in System Care (10.6 GB of Trash!)

3) In a few minutes, the program will provide you with a progress report. In total, ALL the work took about 5 ÷ 10 minutes of time.

But after that, the laptop began to work much faster, the number of slowdowns became less - it can be seen even with the naked eye.

By the way, the utility additionally protects your browser (and the whole network) from ad add-ons, toolbars, add-ons, etc. "infection".

Simply? Simply! 👌

Work in the "manual" version

Despite all of the above praises, Windows has built-in system cleaners. I cannot say that they are excellent, but nevertheless they do quite well with the "main" task.

Therefore, I will consider this option in the same way (especially since there is not always the Internet on the PC to download the necessary software).

Cleaning up trash from disk

The easiest and most universal way to start the Disk Cleanup Wizard in Windows is to use the window "Run" .

To do this: press the combination of buttons WIN + R then enter the command cleanmgr.exe and press Enter (see screenshot below).

👉 Note!

In the same way, you can run many other useful programs, edit settings, etc. Complete list of commands for "Run"

cleanmgr.exe - command to start cleaning the disk from garbage

Next, the cleaner will start in Windows - the first thing it does is ask you to select a disk.

Most often, the system disk is littered with garbage, and, usually, it is "C: \" (note: the system disk is marked with a special icon - ).

Choosing a disk to clean up

Then, within 10-60 seconds. (longer - very rarely) the system will estimate how much it can remove junk from your computer. At this time, it is better not to load the PC with extraneous tasks, just wait ...

Analysis of the possibility of cleaning

Then a window will appear in front of you with a list of what can be cleaned. Opposite each item will be the volume of the released space.

Here, just tick off everything that you do not need, and agree to clean up ...

Disk Defragmenter

After deleting all "junk" files from Windows, it is highly advisable to carry out defragment the disk .

With regular defragmentation, the disk will be more responsive and will freeze less when accessing it (especially when working with the FAT 32 file system).

👉 Note!

If you have an SSD, you don't need to defragment (on it)!

*

To open the defragmenter in Windows - simultaneously hold down the buttons Win + R then enter the command dfrgui , then press Enter (see the screen below 👇).

dfrgui - start defragmenter

Next, you will be presented with all the drives connected to the computer. Select the required hard drive and press the button analyze .

Analyze hard drive

Based on the results of the analysis, the wizard will either offer you to defragment the disk, or say that everything is fine and you do not need to defragment anything yet.

In general, it is convenient!

Optimization required

👉 Remark!

You can also defragment using special utilities, the best of them are presented here.

Removing old programs

From my own experience, I can say that most users will not remove many of the programs they install. A simple example: you installed a game, played for a week, then it lays on disk for years.

One more: you need a program for converting video, installed it, then it will be on disk for another 2-3 years, at startup, updating every time, wasting system resources, etc. And the user does not use it. Do you need such software? 👀

I believe that if the program is not needed in the near future, it is better to remove it and not to clutter up the system. If you need it, it won't take long to download and install ...

Windows has a pretty handy application uninstaller. To open it, 👉 go to the control panel and select the " Removing a program "(see screenshot below 👇).

Control Panel - Programs - Uninstall

Next, you will see a list of all installed software on your computer: you can sort it by the name of the program, by the date it was installed, by its publisher, etc.

Then remove from the list those programs that you have not used for a long time, or that are simply not needed!

Checking and cleaning startup

Each time the computer is turned on, all programs added to the Windows startup are loaded. Naturally, if there are too many of them (or there are "heavy" resource-intensive applications), the computer will take longer to load (and sometimes significantly).

In Windows, you can view startup without additional utilities. To do this, click Win + R then enter the command msconfig , click OK (see the screen below 👇).

msconfig - Controlling startup in Windows

In the opened window " system configuration ", find and see the tab "Startup" .

If you have a new OS (like, for example, I have Windows 10), you will see a link to the task manager (it is in it that this tab with all the software will be).

msconfig - System Configuration

By the way, Task Manager can be called using a combination of buttons: Ctrl + Shift + Esc or Ctrl + Alt + Del .

In the startup list, you need to select those programs that you do not need after each start of the computer , and disable them (to disable - click on any program with the right mouse button and change the state to "off").

Windows 10 Task Manager - Disable program startup

Pay special attention to torrents, video editors, various optimization utilities.

👉 By the way!

You can view the startup using specials. utilities such as AIDA64 (screenshot below).

Removing the browser cache

Cache Is a special disk space used by browsers for pages you visit frequently. Due to the fact that the browser saves some of the page elements on the hard drive of your computer, you load the site faster when you refer to it again.

Everything would be fine, but over time cache can grow to a very impressive size (for example, 500-1000 MB or more).

I will show you how to delete the cache in one of the most popular browsers - Google chrome ... To do this, go first to the settings (click the icon with three dots in the right corner of the Chrome screen, and select the one you are looking for in the list, see the screen below 👇).

Chrome - enter settings

Next, scroll to the bottom of the settings page and click the link "Show advanced settings" .

Find the subsection " Personal data "and press the button" Clear the history "(arrow-1 on the screenshot below).

Next in the list, select " Delete the specified data for the entire time of work "(arrow-2) and press the button" Clear the history "(arrow-3).

Clear the history

Please note that the size of the cache I am deleting is very decent -almost 400 MB (and this is only in one browser)!

*

By the way , you can also delete the cache using various utilities. For example, the CCleaner utility (which I recommended in the table above) is capable of deleting the cache in all browsers at once (at least in the most popular ones: Chrome, Firefox, IE, Opera, etc.).

CCleaner cleans out the Augean Stables!

*

PS

I also recommend that you look into torrents - many have been there for years with various TV shows, games, music that have long been no longer needed.

Moreover, cleaning unnecessary torrents can free up space much more than all the other steps that were taken earlier. Or do you disagree ?! 👌

*

That's it for now ...

The note will be finalized as the site lives ...

Happy work!
