Screen lock on Android: how to set it up? We protect our personal information from strangers: pattern, fingerprint, PIN and password

Hello.

I think that most of us on a mobile phone (or tablet) have files and information that we would not like to show 👀.

There are many ways to protect it, but one of the simplest and most reliable is to put a screen lock so that no one except you can turn on the phone (so that an Android phone can easily do this).

Such protection, of course, will not protect you from professional hackers, but for most users it is not necessary. If you accidentally, say, forget your phone at work, then no one will be able to see your correspondence and photos. What, in general, is what you need! 👌

In this article, I will consider several ways how you can set up a screen lock on Android using various methods: pattern, PIN, password and special utilities.

So...

👉 Note!

I recommend choosing a password that you will not forget. No matter how funny it was, but more than once I had to meet with such a situation that people forgot their passwords in 1-2 minutes after they put them ...

Keep in mind that if you forget the password to unlock the screen, then in some cases it will be enough to enter data from your Google account, and in some you will need to reset the phone to factory settings (or even reflash).

Android screen lock methods

Graphic key

Default, Android's screen lock is usually removed after a simple swipe of your finger across the screen (which will protect you only if the phone accidentally turns on, for example, in your pocket). Therefore, it is recommended to replace this method with a safer one ... 👇

Simplest way of protection - this is the use of a graphic key: the point is that you need to slide your finger a little "snake", consisting of 4-9 points. If you know this" snake "- then it is done easily and quickly.

Nevertheless, such protection allows you to seriously protect your device from curiosity and prying eyes.

For example: even a snake of 4 points has 1624 combinations, and of 9 - 140704. accidentally picking the right combination (when you don't even know how many points) is very, very difficult.

To establish this protection, you must:

  1. open Android settings;
  2. then open the tab "Safety" ;

    Safety

  3. Then go to the section "Screen lock" ;
  4. Next, choose a protection method "Graphic key" ;

    Graphic key

  5. Now it is necessary "draw" snake on the screen with 9 dots. This is done quite simply (most importantly, do not forget it!). An example is shown in the screenshot below;

    5 points graph. key

    What not to do! 1) Connect start and end point. 2) Make a break between points in the key. 3) Use less than four points. 4) Use any point twice.

  6. After that, you will need to re-draw the same snake (check that you have not forgotten it, or have not drawn it by accident);
  7. And the final touch: specify how notifications will be displayed, there are only three options: show them completely, hide personal information, and not show them. In general, here is a matter of taste ...

    How to show notifications

Nowwhen you want to turn on the phone and see the menu - first of all, you will need to unlock the screen by entering the pattern. Until you enter it, the phone will be locked from the eyes of strangers ...

Fingerprint (Fingerprint ID)

On the overwhelming majority of new phones, specials began to be installed. fingerprint sensor (i.e.the device will turn on only if its owner touches it!).

This approach is very convenient, and allows you to relatively reliably protect the device from various "accidents". 👌

Fingerprint sensor

If you have this sensor, then its activation does not take more than 1 minute. First you need to enter the Android security settings, and open the tab responsible for "fingerprints" (in different phones - the name may vary slightly). See the screen below 👇.

Settings - security and privacy

Next, you need to create several fingerprint IDs - the device will remember them (and allow "them" to turn on the device in the future).

Fingerprint ID

That's all, protection is installed!

Note: the pattern is usually connected in parallel with the fingerprint protection (this can be very useful if the device does not recognize wet fingers ...).

PIN

The PIN is a 4-digit type of password. Many users trust numbers more than graphic snakes drawn on the screen. 👌

In addition, the PIN code is used everywhere, for example, on bank cards, on SIM cards, etc.

To set a PIN:

  1. you need to open the Android settings, the tab "Safety" ;
  2. then open the section "Screen lock" (screenshots, by the way, are given above, when setting up protection using a pattern);
  3. then choose a protection option "PIN" and enter 4 digits in sequence;

    PIN

  4. then you will be asked to enter the PIN again (for verification) and select the option to show notifications;
  5. in fact, that's all - now you can use it, to remove the lock, you need to correctly enter a combination of 4 digits.

👉 Note: many people doubt the security of the PIN-code, allegedly that it can be easily picked up ...

I can argue with them: in total, it turns out that you need to check 10,000 combinations. You need to sort through them manually, besides, after several incorrect attempts to enter the PIN-code - Android will block the password entry for 30 seconds.

Those. a purely theoretically curious person will have to sit at your phone for more than one day! If your phone is left unattended for such a long period, I think that no protection and no password will help you ...

Password

It is one of the most reliable lock screen protectors out there. The length of the password can be from 4 to 17 characters, and taking into account the fact that the characters can be both Latin and Cyrillic (large and small), plus numbers and special characters, all possible combinations are obtained.

Even with the help of special software, it is extremely difficult to find a password.

To set a password, you must also open the settings in the following path: "Security / Screen Lock / Password" ... Next, you need to enter a password twice and select the option to show notifications. The password setting is shown in the screenshot below.

Special applications

Soft Lock Screen

Website: //play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=diewland.screen.off

Soft Lock Screen - screenshots of the application (from the developers)

The application allows you to easily and quickly turn on the smartphone screen lock, customize the wallpaper, choose a screen saver, calendar, weather, etc. The application really surprises with its bright colors and ease of use!

If desired, the wallpaper on the screensaver will be changed automatically, new every day, delighting and surprising you.

Note: on some phones it is impossible (or problematic) to change the screensaver. The same application allows you to fix this.

Features:

  1. beautiful and user-friendly interface with HD wallpapers (by the way, all wallpapers have been tested by the program developers, so any slag will not be shown!);
  2. efficiency: the developers brought some of the most needed applications to the lock screen (for example, you can quickly turn on a flashlight, notebook, etc.);
  3. security: you can put a password or pattern to protect your smartphone (moreover, the key can be with photos of people close to you, see the photo above).

LOCKit

Website: //play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ushareit.lockit

LOCKit - screenshots of the application (from the developers)

LOCKit - this program is designed specifically to protect personal data. In addition to directly blocking the screen, it is possible to block applications, photos, contacts.

In addition to this, there is a function of protecting the phone from theft - it helps to find the phone and catch the thief.

By the way, such a thing as "Burglar's selfie" helps in this - a photo of the person who entered the wrong PIN code or drew a pattern is automatically taken.

Well, in addition, you can set HD wallpapers (nice and pleasing to the eye 👀).

PS

In principle, there are a lot of such applications, each with its own pros / cons. I think it makes no sense to consider dozens (hundreds) of these applications within the framework of this article ...

Everyone, having entered the play market, can experimentally try and find an application to their liking.

What to do if you forgot your key / password?

In this I am not an expert, and I will give only the basic methods. By the way, I recommend that you look for an unlocking option specifically for your phone model (perhaps there is an option much easier than the universal ones offered by many authors).

1) Google account password

In the most innocuous case, after incorrectly entering the pattern (usually you need to enter 5 times), you should see a window prompting you to enter data from your Google account.

Enter your data, and if the phone was able to access the network (for example, connected via Wi-Fi), then you can reset the password.

Unblocking

Note: not always and not on all devices such a window appears with the ability to recover the password. Moreover, if the password was set using special applications.

2) HARD-Reset

This is a special device reboot that will restore the system to factory defaults.

This deletes all user data: contacts, sms, passwords, applications, etc. All this data cannot be restored, so I do not advise you to rush to this procedure.

Hard Reset is usually used as the most extreme measure when errors, failures, problems with the input of the device occur, when other methods do not work.

3) Re-flashing the phone

The topic is quite extensive and specific. If you have never done this before, I recommend contacting the service center.

PS

By the way, in some cases it is possible to enter the phone settings menu and disable the lock ... To do this, try to wait for some kind of notification, for example, that the battery is low and needs to be charged (this "trick" worked on many devices ).

That, in fact, is all I wanted to say in this article.

Good luck!
