How to remove microphone noise from audio: 4 ways

Good day!

Now almost any modern smartphone, laptop or tablet can record audio and video files. True, if we talk about the sound quality, you can often notice a slight hiss, buzzing, crackling (this occurs due to the low quality of the built-in microphone).

In addition, some screams, background noise (conversations of people in the distance, for example), etc. can also be included in the recording.

Ideally, of course, I would like to remove all unnecessary things ... (after all, because of this, do not buy professional equipment for recording amateur videos 👌).

Such noise, in fact, can be made much quieter, almost silent (or removed altogether). In this post, I will show you a few programs that will allow any novice user to complete this task.

Note: Of course, noise can be suppressed in much more professional ways. However, it is unlikely that an unprepared person will be able to quickly master the necessary tools and software for this (and is it necessary for the majority?).

Remove noise from audio and video files

It is hardly possible to say for sure which of the programs will cope with the sound better in your case (it depends on the nature of the noise being removed). So I would recommend testing each of the options below ...

Movavi Video Suite

Officer. website: //www.movavi.ru/

This program is a multifunctional editor for audio and video files (collected in a bunch of hundreds of functions for creating and processing professional videos).

As for the "noise", Movavi's editor has specialist. option its suppression (+ equalizer and special effects). This mini-kit allows you to save audio recordings in some cases!

Therefore, I recommend the program for review!

How to work in it

1) After installation and launch - you need to create a new project and add video (audio) to it. Then transfer this file to the track at the bottom of the window. 👇

Drag the file to the track

2) Next, open the tab "Eliminate noise" : you can do this directly from the menu, or simply by right-clicking on the audio track (at the bottom of the editor window).

By moving slider "noise suppression" - get the best sound for your file.

3) I would also advise using the tab "Audio Effects" - for example, in some cases, raising the tone can have a positive effect on the sound quality.

4) And, in addition to the above-mentioned, it would not be superfluous to use equalizer for fine-tuning the sound.

After, you can to keep the resulting file.

Problem solved ?! 👌

AVS Audio Editor

Official website: //www.avs4you.com/

AVS Audio Editor - a powerful enough audio editor that allows you to perform the entire range of the most popular tasks with sound.

The editor's arsenal contains more than two dozen filters (for example, removing noise from vuvuzel, whistles and shouts of fans, etc.) the "noise" pattern, and the template is set by you!).

Of course, using AVS Audio Editor, you can cut audio tracks as you like, glue together any pieces of audio (and in any order), convert audio files from one format to another (MP3, WMA, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG are supported , MP2, FLAC and many others).

*

1) I will consider our task in stages. First you need to open the desired audio file (or record it from a microphone, import it from a video, CD, etc.).

Open file - AVS Audio Editor

2) Next, go to the section "Effects" and select a filter "Noise Removal" (see screenshot below).

3) After you will see the settings window: please note that the program will inform you "noise profile not loaded ..." ... This profile is set manually - just click the button "Get noise profile" .

Get the noise profile

4) Now you need to indicate that part of the audio track where there is noise (which needs to be removed), but there are no other sounds.

For example, if you remove the hiss from the microphone, find an area where you cannot hear a voice and select it (2-3 seconds will be enough). This will be a template for the program, by which it will find all similar sounds and remove them.

Specifying the noise profile

5) Then in the filter window "Noise Removal" you should start to display a green inscription that the noise profile is loaded. If so, you can apply the effect.

Remove noise

6) Wait for the end of the operation. Then you can listen to what happened and save the audio track.

Audio Master

Official website: //audiomaster.su/

Audio Master Is a good and easy-to-use audio editor designed for novice users. Allows you to record sound from a microphone, extract audio CDs, import audio tracks from video files, cut audio into pieces, apply various effects, etc.

As far as our topic is concerned, the Audio Wizard has a special filter to suppress noise (it becomes almost inaudible). Below I will show with an example how to use it.

*

1) And so, first start the program and press the file open button (by the way, note that you can prepare and create an audio track right in the same program).

Open File / Audio Wizard

2) Next, in the menu on the left, click on the tool "Equalizer" .

Equalizer

3) In templates (also called presets) there is a special filter "Noise reduction" - activate it.

Noise reduction

4) Wait for the effect to be applied (for an audio track that is 3-5 minutes long, noise reduction is performed in 10-20 seconds).

Create a rollback point, apply an effect

5) By the way, if you have places in your audio tracks that need to be cut (for example, silence at the beginning / end of a track, unsuccessful "bloopers", somewhere it is hard to hear, etc.) - all this is just enough to cut.

To do this, select the desired area with the mouse (arrows-1 in the screenshot below), and then click on the tool "Scissors" (arrow-2 on the screenshot below). The selected area will be deleted.

Cut an extra piece of audio

6) After that, all that remains is to save the received audio: just press "File / Save As ..." ... By the way, in this regard, Audio-Master allows you to "roam" - you can save in all the most popular formats: WAV, MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, FLAC.

Audacity

Official site: //www.audacityteam.org/

Download from Source Forge

Audacity - a free sound editor with a wide range of features (there are even professional "chips"). Moreover, despite the abundance of functions, the developers managed to make it quite simple and easy to use.

As for noise reduction, this editor works similarly to the previous one: you first need to set a noise template (for example, to remove hiss and crackles of a poor-quality microphone, select the audio track in a place where there is no conversation or music, and then apply this template to the entire audio file) ... Let's look at the steps in order.

*

1) The first step: either open a finished (already recorded earlier) file, or record it online through a microphone (for example). Next, you need to open the tab "Effects" .

Opening a project (Audacity)

2) B "Effects" select tool "Noise Removal" (if you have an English version - pay attention to the "Noise Removal" option).

Audacity - effects - noise removal

3) After you need to click on the tool "Create noise model" (stage 1, see the screen below), and indicate the section of the audio track (2-5 seconds will be enough) where the noises that you want to remove are located.

Further, the program for this area will create a mathematical model, on the basis of which the entire audio file will be processed.

By the way, regarding stage 2 (also see the screen below): there are several noise reduction options here. It is best to select them experimentally, moving the slider to the side and pressing the "Listen" button.

That's all for now ...

Good luck!
