How to clear RAM (if RAM is 80-99% busy)

User question

Hello. I am trying to install one game, but when installing it, I get an error that there is not enough RAM!

How can you free her? Yes, by the way, the minimum of those. the requirements of the game - the PC meets. Is it possible to somehow tune the PC so that it consumes less RAM?

Good day!

In general, the question is quite popular ...

If there is not enough RAM, not only errors may appear, with messages from Windows that "there is not enough memory ...", but also brakes are simply observed, for example, when you open an application (often the PC does not respond to commands at all).

The best solution to the problem is to add another RAM stick. Although Windows has a mechanism for cleaning up memory, however, it does not always work "as needed".

And in this regard, you can try to clear memory using third-party utilities  (release -more correct word in this context) , as well as take a number of measures to more efficiently "spend" RAM. This does not always solve the problem, but still ... 👌

If your computer freezes quite often, does not respond, a blue screen appears, etc., then in addition to this article, I recommend testing your memory.

Programs for cleaning memory in 2 clicks

Advanced SystemCare

Official website: //ru.iobit.com/advancedsystemcarefree.php

An excellent program for optimizing and speeding up Windows. Allows you to remove all junk from your PC, defragment disks, protect against viruses and threats in a few mouse clicks.

As for our topic of the article, the program has performance monitor (to open it, just right-click on the Advanced SystemCare icon - it appears in the tray next to the clock after installing the program).

Open Performance Monitor

After the performance monitor is open - look at the upper right corner, there will be a small window informing you about the CPU and RAM load.

Actually, you need to click on the clear memory button (see the screen below 👇), and in a moment, the memory will be freed from all unnecessary. In my opinion, the cleaning was done, just in 2 clicks!

Wise Memory Optimizer

Official website: //www.wisecleaner.com/

A very simple and at the same time effective utility for freeing and optimizing memory. After installing and launching the program - you just need to press one button "Optimization" (your memory will be cleared in a couple of seconds!). The program supports Russian, is free, works in Windows 7, 8, 10.

By the way, it is possible to set up automatic optimization when the memory load reaches, say, up to 85%. Convenient - nothing will need to be started manually (i.e. once configured, the program will automatically optimize your memory).

What to do if there is not enough memory

👉 Tip # 1: buying a memory stick

Perhaps this is the most effective and practical advice, especially since now the prices for memory are quite democratic (especially if we are not talking about some newfangled things).

When you install one more additional memory strip, your performance will increase in a way that no program will do (unless, of course, the reason for the brakes is precisely the lack of RAM).

RAM dies slots

👉 By the way!

In general, it is not always easy for novice users to buy a memory stick. You can find out what to look for and how to choose it right here.

*

👉 Tip # 2: close applications you are not using

For some reason, many users do not close applications, but simply minimize them (even in those cases when they are not going to use them at all in the near future).

As a result, as new applications are opened, the amount of used memory grows and the computer starts to slow down.

Note: in some cases, even when you close the program, its process may remain hanging and load the memory and CPU of your PC.

*

therefore, I recommend when the first brakes appear - open the task manager (shortcut Ctrl + Shift + Esc) and see which apps are using the most memory.

If the list contains applications that you are not currently using (say, a browser), just end the process.

What applications load the system

👉 Tip # 3: tabs in the browser

Because the browser is now one of the most necessary and popular programs, I want to draw your attention to it ...

The fact is that many users have dozens of different tabs open in their browser. Each open tab is an additional. load on the CPU and RAM of your PC. Try not to open a bunch of tabs, especially when you don't need to.

Chrome - open tabs

👉 Tip # 4: check startup

Many programs add themselves to startup during installation. And of course, when Windows starts, they are loaded into memory (and whether they will be needed when turning on the PC is not yet known ...). Therefore, I recommend setting up Windows startup.

First, open the system configuration:

  • press the button combination Win + R ;
  • enter command msconfig ;
  • click OK.

msconfig - system configuration

Next open the tab "Startup" ... All those applications that you do not need every time you boot Windows - disable.

Note: on newer versions of Windows, this tab will contain a link to the Task Manager. It is in the task manager, for example, in Windows 10 that autorun is configured.

System Configuration - Startup Tab

By the way, note that Windows shows the impact on loading in front of each application: low, medium, high... Of course, first of all look for applications that have a high impact on downloads.

👉 Tip # 5: restarting explorer

In some cases, the conductor can load your memory very heavily (and not only it). In these cases, it is recommended to close it and restart it.

To do this, just open the task manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc buttons), and right-click on Explorer - select "Restart" , see the screen below. 👇

Restart File Explorer

If you closed the explorer, then you will have a black screen and nothing else on it. It is enough to reopen Task Manager , press file / new task , and enter the command explorer ... This will launch a new explorer.

👉 Tip # 6: disable unnecessary services

There are many services in Windows, and by default, many of them are enabled and running. While, many users simply don't need some of these services.

It is logical to save PC resources (especially if there are brakes) - you need to configure them, turn off everything unnecessary.

To open the list of services, press:

  1. Win + R (to make the window appear "Run" with the line "Open");
  2. enter the command services.msc and press Enter.

How to open services // Windows 7, 8, 10

Next, disable services that you don't need. For example: if you don't have a printer and fax, then you don't need services:Print Manager, Fax ... The list of services to be disabled will be individual for each user.

👉 At all, this topic is quite extensive, I considered it in this article (at the same time I recommend optimizing your Windows).

👉 Tip # 7: setting up the swap file

By default, Windows automatically installs a paging file that is used to "expand" your RAM.

In general, in most cases, the system itself corrects it and you should not interfere with its work. But in some cases, manually setting the paging file can slightly improve the performance of the computer.

To customize swap file: first 👉 open the control panel and go to the " System and Security \ System ".Next, on the left in the menu, open the "Additional system parameters" link.

Control Panel \ System and Security \ System

Then you need to open the subsection "Additionally" , and go to the tab "Parameters" (see subtitle performance, screen below 👇).

Advanced - performance

Further in the tab "Additionally" there is a button "Change" - it is just there to configure the paging file (that is, virtual memory).

By the way, I also recommend checking the box next to "Optimize the work of programs" ,

Configuring the swap file

How to customize the swap file:

  • the optimal swap file is considered to be about 1.5 times the amount of installed RAM (too large a swap file will not speed up your PC!). By the way, the more RAM you have, the less swap file, as a rule;
  • if you have 2 ÷ 3 hard disks on your PC, place the paging file on the fastest of them (it is also recommended to place the paging file not on the system disk with Windows (if possible));
  • the paging file is hidden by default. To see it, enable the display of hidden files in the explorer, or use Total Commander. The paging file is called pagefile.sys (don't delete it by accident ...).
  • by the way, it is recommended to defragment the paging file.

*

👉 Tip # 8: performance options in Windows

By the way, when you configure the paging file, do not close the Windows performance settings.

In the tab "Visual effects" check the box next to "Provide the best performance" ... It will also affect the responsiveness and speed of your PC.

Provide the best performance

In addition to this, I also recommend installing the classic theme, turning off gadgets, etc. all the bells and whistles and applications that inexperienced users like to install so much.

All this takes up enough memory, and of course slows down the PC ...

*

That's all for this, I hope you will no longer see errors with insufficient memory.

Happy work!
