System error: missing msvcr100.dll, msvcp71.dll, msvcp120.dll, etc.

Good time!

You work for yourself and everything seems to be in order with the system ... But then, unexpectedly, when you start some game or application, an error pops up:"the program cannot be started ... msvcr100.dll is missing ..."(example in the screenshot below) ... This is how blog topics are born. ...

In general, such a problem, of course, is not critical, but nevertheless it will take some time to solve. In this article I will give several ways (options) how you can eliminate this error and return the system to working order. I think the material will be useful to all not very sophisticated users.

And so, to the point ...

Example of error with missing msvcr100.dll file

What can you do if you get this error?

Reasons for the appearance

Files of the form msvcr100.dll, msvcp71.dll, etc. are included in the Microsoft Visual C ++ 2010 package (which is often used in the development of games and applications). Those. if they are not in the system, then Windows cannot "work" with the application, giving out that "such and such" file is missing.

In general, such an error can be caused not only by the absence of a file, but also by some other reasons:

  1. system file corruption dll (for example, the samemsvcr100.dll). This file could be damaged, for example, by a virus or adware;
  2. the file may have been deleted (for example, when reinstalling Visual C ++);
  3. it is possible that your version of the Visual C ++ package is too old.

Actually, now I will consider several solutions.

Option # 1: manual installation of Visual C ++

The most obvious way is to go to the official Microsoft website (gave a link to the page with the latest versions of Visual C ++) and install the required package.

For example, the file msvcr100.dll included in the Microsoft Visual C ++ 2010 (2012) package. In general, you do not have to bother and install the package that is required for your game / application to work (which caused the error). Usually, this information is indicated in the system requirements.

In general, by installing one of the packages, you should solve the problem. By the way, after installing Visual C ++, don't forget to restart your PC.

Important!

Visual C ++ distributions for 64-bit Windows OS are not compatible with 32-bit ones! Those. you need to select the correct Visual C ++ package based on your version of Windows.

Option # 2: we use special. utilities

In order not to manually download and install each system-significant package (+ don't think what version is needed ...) - you can use the specials. utilities. For example, with the help of Driver Booster, you can not only update drivers, but also install all the necessary libraries required for startup and norms. work games. An example is shown in the screenshot below, i.e. to solve the problem - you only need to press 1 button ...

Option # 3: manually load the missing DLL file

Sites with DLL files: //ru.dll-files.com/; //www.dll.ru/

There are library sites on the Internet that contain tens of thousands of different DLL files. For example, if you get an error about the absence of a specific file (that is, its full name is indicated in the error), you can try to enter it into the search bar of the service and see the results. For example, in our case, the ru.dll-files.com service offers to download the found file (see the screen below).

Found the file you need ... (screen from ru.dll-files.com)

Note that the loadedmsvcr100.dll (for example) it is necessary:

  1. copy to folder: Windows / system32 or Windows / SysWOW64 (for 64 bit systems);
  2. register the file in the system: to do this, press the combination Win + R , in the window that appears, enter the command "regsvr32 msvcr100.dll" (no quotes; the file name may be different, depending on the one you copied to the folder);

    regsvr32 msvcr100.dll - registration

  3. to restart a computer.

I will add that this method is somewhat "confused", tk.quite often, after copying and adding a specific missing DLL, the system begins to "ask" for another DLL. And so, you can run in a "circle" a dozen times ...

Option # 4: roll back the system to a working state

If everything worked normally on your computer before, and then, due to some unknown reason, some applications stopped starting, you can try to roll back the system.

In order to check if there are points (backups) to which you can roll back Windows, you need:

  1. press the keyboard shortcut Win + R to display the Run window;
  2. enter command rstrui , press Enter;

    rstrui - start recovery

  3. then move the slider to the restore point selection mode (see screenshot below);

    Select a restore point - (see the bottom of the screen)

  4. after which you will be presented with a list of points to which you can roll back the system. For example, in my case, there are 4 restore points. See example below.

    Restore points sorted by date

Pay attention also to NET Framework and DirectX: when they are not updated, Windows can behave in a similar way, informing that there are no DLL files ...

That's all for now ...

Alternative solutions to the problem are welcome!

Good luck!
