A yellow spot appeared on the phone screen: why and what can be done with it?

User question

Hello.

On my smartphone, a small yellow spot appeared in the corner of the screen. So God would be with him, but it grows little by little and is already beginning to annoy. Tell me, is there a way to remove it, and in general, why did it appear?

Hello.

This problem is not uncommon (and, interestingly, in some cases, in addition to yellow spots, white may appear, other colors are rare).

It is hardly possible to single out one specific reason for their appearance, not knowing what kind of apparatus and how it was operated. Below I will summarize and give the most frequently encountered of them (and also, whether it is possible to do something with them) ...

Why yellow spots can appear

Overheating of the smartphone

This is probably one of the most common causes of stains. By the way, in this case, they most often appear on the sides of the screen in the form of small stripes with an orange-yellow tint around the edges (as in the example below in the photo).

I cannot help but note that overheating is an insidious thing and many users do not even notice that during games (and other resource-intensive applications) the temperature inside the smartphone has increased significantly ... I recommend in this regard to read the article, the link to which is given below.

Filling the device with water

This is another extremely popular problem (note: so far 98% of smartphones are not waterproof, and perhaps manufacturers will someday improve this point). Often the phone just falls into the water somewhere in nature, in the bathroom, gets wet in the rain (many do not even attach any importance to this ...).

By the way, not only the screen suffers from water, but also the battery, microphone, speakers, and all the microcircuits inside the device. A characteristic feature of yellowness with "good" flooding is a large spot size and its weak intensity (as in the example below).

Note: When flooding the device, white spots also often appear ...

Factory defect / battery problem

If you have handled your phone with care and it is not yet a year old, then the appearance of spots can most often indicate a factory defect (this usually happens with the cheapest devices). Pay attention to the body of the phone and the battery (the fact is that sometimes batteries can swell and, because of this, put pressure on the screen, which causes the appearance of stains). An example in the photo below.

Swelling of the phone (battery)

If the battery is swollen, do not delay replacing it with a new one (Important! In some cases, these batteries can even catch fire!).

Note: for some cheap Chinese devices, spots on the screen appear after 2-4 years of operation. Moreover, even if you handled the phone very carefully (the point is the low quality of components, for example, glue ...).

Strong press on the screen / drop / fur. damage

I don't think there is much to comment on here. In this regard, it can be noted that users most often:

  • accidentally sit on the device when it is in the back pocket of your trousers;
  • drop when picking up the phone with wet (damp) hands;
  • strongly press on the screen (sometimes when freezing and braking).

Burnout of the matrix, poor-quality glue between the touchscreen and the display

Matrix burnout occurs after long-term operation (more than a year) of cheap smartphones with low quality components. Nothing can be done about this, except for replacing the display with a new one (which is interesting: manufacturers of such cheap equipment seem to be counting on a "calculator"how long their device will live - and just after the warranty period you face a similar problem 😒).

Is it possible to return the phone under warranty with a similar problem

In general, if you didn’t drop the phone, didn’t flood it with water (etc.), in general, you treated it with care and did not pass the warranty period (usually it is 1-2 years), then you can return the phone.

Important: if you think that an authorized service will not notice that you dropped your phone, you are deeply mistaken. Fur. damage is clearly visible on cracks, scratches, splinters, etc. (Filling the phone with liquid is even better visible 👌).

It is worth noting some details that not everyone knows about:

  1. if the phone breaks down within the first 14 days after purchase, then you can insist not only on repairing the device, but also replacing it with a new one or refunding (after 14 days - only for repair);
  2. a telephone is a technically complex product and the seller most often cannot immediately exchange the goods without checking a specialist (this sometimes takes time). Therefore, in the event of a breakdown, do not be surprised if the device is accepted from you along with an application for a refund and you are asked to wait (note: no more than 10 days);
  3. from the arc side: t. the seller is usually not a specialist in the repair of such equipment - then he cannot indicate to you that your phone is in good working order and in any case should take your smartphone for diagnostics to the service;
  4. if your device breaks down after 14 days from the date of purchase: then I recommend not to waste time with the store, but immediately go to an authorized service for the repair of similar equipment in the city (indicated in the warranty card). Why? You will simply gain a lot of time (while the store will send them a phone, pick it up, contact you ... The difference can be up to a week / two!).
  5. the device must be repaired within 45 days;
  6. if the repair period has exceeded 45 days, you have the right to demand a refund.

If you have a more specific problem, then you can consult a lawyer for free on certain sites on the Internet (in the article, the link to which is given below, the best of them are presented).

Is there a way to remove the macula on your own

It depends on which spot ...

It's just that sometimes users confuse a broken pixel with a spot (a broken pixel is shown in the photo below, spots are in the examples above).

If we are talking about a bit pixel, then in some cases the problem can be corrected. How to do this - see this note: //ocomp.info/monitor-bityie-pikseli.html

Dead pixel found

If we are talking about a spot (especially one that appeared in case of overheating or flooding), then in 99.99% of cases it can be removed only by replacing the screen. No software and reboot with device reset will help.

Moreover, replacing the screen is not the easiest action, and if you have never "done" this, then it is better to give the device to the service immediately. However, it should be said that some old devices can be easily disassembled and repaired (you hardly have one like this now ...).

As for the cost of such a repair: in most cases, replacing a display is 2-3 times cheaper than buying a new device. What, as they say, is better - you decide ...
