How to view recently opened files in Windows 10 (I can't find yesterday's document in any way ...)

User question

Hello.

Help with one problem. I worked late yesterday with a text document, saved it, went to bed.

The next morning I just can’t find this file, as if it didn’t exist, although I remember 100% I pressed the save button. Can I see all recently opened files in Windows 10?

Alexander.

Hello.

Some users, by the way, encounter a similar situation immediately after saving the file ("Oops, where did I send it ...?") 👌.

Windows 10 would not be as popular if it didn’t allow you to quickly resolve this issue. Below are some tips on this topic ...

Best practices for finding files you've recently worked with

Tip # 1

The easiest way to see what you've been working with recently is to click on the Magnifying Glass icon in the taskbar. In the menu that opens, several programs and documents (files) will be presented.

See arrow 2 on the screenshot below: not only the names of the documents are presented, but also the path (disk space where they were saved). By the way, there is an option to view the timeline (arrow 3).

Windows 10 search icon

What does it look like "Timeline" shown in the screenshot: note that you can move the slider from the right to the bottom and see not only yesterday's documents, but also for a specific date! All this is done very conveniently and clearly (for this, you can separately thank the developers).

History by date / Clickable

Council number 2

Windows has one tab that "remembers" everything you've worked with (but it's hidden by default). To see it - press the keyboard shortcutWin + R, and enter in the line "Open" command shell: recent.

shell: recent - recent documents

Then sort the documents by date. Pay attention to the screenshot below: it shows my files, moreover, even those with which I work at the moment (note: I use pictures to write this note)! ✌

Recent documents sorted by date

To do not look for this useful tab every time - it is recommended to put it on the quick access panel of the explorer. To do this, go to the directory above (key ), right-click on the directory "Recent documents" and select the function "Pin to Quick Access Toolbar" .

Pin to Quick Access Toolbar

Now, by opening File Explorer, you can always find your recent documents (see screenshot below).

Now the explorer will always find and suggest the latest documents

Tip # 3

The third point to keep in mind is that not only does Explorer remember the files you worked with, but most programs do it too. For example, the same Word at startup (or when trying to open a file) - shows documents with which you often work (or have recently changed).

History in Word

If we are talking about a browser (say, Chrome), then to view the browsing history, you can press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H (or follow the link chrome: // history / ).

History in Chrome

PS

1) To find a specific file on disk (for example, containing specific text) - you can use the recommendations from this note: //ocomp.info/ne-mogu-nayti-fayl-na-diske.html

2) If you want to reliably protect your documents (for example, from a disk breakdown, from "accidental" formatting, viruses, etc.) - one of the best ways would be to auto-create a backup to the cloud (more about this)

If you found the files somehow differently - add a few words in the comments!

Thank you in advance.

Happy work!
