4 programs for downloading sites (browsing sites without access to the Internet)

Good day everyone!

It would seem, why bother downloading any sites to your hard drive - after all, now the Internet is on almost every computer ...? 👀

However, in some cases it can be very useful:

  1. For example, a couple of years ago I found one resource with the articles I needed for work. Added to bookmarks. Then, after visiting it after a while, I found out that it did not work (that's it!). It's good that it ended up 👉 in the web archive cache (or it might not have been archived ...);
  2. it can also be very necessary if, say, at work (or wherever you go) there is no Internet (or it is limited), and at lunch it would be nice to read the materials of a certain site;
  3. if you run a website / blog - this method can be a backup option. Why not?..
  4. when working with documents, writing some reports, etc. - it often becomes necessary to collect all the materials used in one folder so that you can quickly refer to them at any time, and they do not disappear at the wrong moment.

In general, there can be many reasons ... Below are a few programs that will help you easily and naturally solve this problem. 👌

Than upload sites to your hard drive // resource mirror

HTTrack

Official website: //www.httrack.com/

Despite its archaic interface, the program is one of the best in its segment. To start creating a complete copy of the site ("mirror") - you just need to run it, specify the folder on the HDD, and click "Start" ...

Making a backup of the site

HTTrack downloads all web pages of the specified resource to the hard drive of the PC, along with images and most of the scripts.

After downloading the sites, you can work with the copy in almost the same way as with the original (just open the index.htm file 👇 in the folder you specified for downloading). The program supports site structure, links, design and styles.

Open index.html

Separately, I note that HTTrack can periodically check the desired site and reload if something new appears on it. The program supports Russian and works on Windows, Linux and Android.

Cyotek WebCopy

Official website: //www.cyotek.com/cyotek-webcopy

Cyotek WebCopy is another decent website mirroring tool. The program does not support Russian, but it is completely free.

It is extremely simple to use it: just specify the website URL, the folder (Folder) and click the button "Copy" .

WebCopy - main window screen

After a certain time, the site will be loaded and it will be possible to use it without access to the Internet. By the way, WebCopy has a fairly large number of filters - this makes it possible, for example, to load not the entire site as a whole, but only a certain part of it.

Copying process

The process of working with the offline version is very simple - just select the desired web page at the bottom of the window and click on "Open in Browser" ...

Open local folder

Website Extractor

Official website: //www.internet-soft.com/extractor.htm

I must say right away that this program is paid (but with a trial period). It differs significantly from the above: both functionally and design.

By the way, its interface consists of three blocks, one of which displays a list of URLs, the other displays the open site, and the third displays the files of the open page (see example below 👇).

Website Extractor - main window

I will add that Website Extractor has dozens of different add-ons, filters, limits, etc. etc. (which makes the program much more flexible and multifunctional than the above products).

Generally, Website Extractor is more suitable for advanced users (rather than beginners).

Local Website Archive

Developer site: //www.aignes.com/lwa.htm

Local Website Archive is a very solid program for quickly creating a mirror of websites (there are both paid and free versions).

Its main difference from others is that it has a portable version (which does not need to be installed), which is very convenient - you can take it with you on a USB flash drive and run it on any PC.

Local Website Archive - the main page of the site

Note that this program is closely integrated with Internet Explorer, can save pages in PDF, has support for the Russian language, filters and dozens of settings.

The Local Website Archive interface is extremely simple: on the left is the bookmarks bar, on the right is the main window with a list of web pages. Using the program is easy and convenient (similar to the above). I recommend to meet you!

That's it for now. Additions on the topic - will come in handy!

Happy work!
