Antimalware Service Executable puts a strain on the processor. What can be done?

User question

Hello.

On my laptop, the processor is constantly loaded up to 30-60% by the Antimalware Service Executable service. Because of this, the laptop is constantly noisy (there is a hum from the fan) and blows out air strongly from the side. Is it possible to somehow disable this process (I tried it through the task manager - but it tells me that you are denied access)? What can be done?

Hello.

This process is designed to protect your system from all sorts of threats (it is part of Windows Defender). The most common reason for high CPU load from it is checking and scanning your system.

To reduce the load from this process: you can wait a while until the scan is completed, or you can manually disable it (although, in this case, I highly recommend protecting your system with an alternative antivirus product).

Below we will see how to do this ...

How to disable Antimalware Service Executable

By the way, I want to note that this process is not only a great load on the processor, but also on the hard drive and RAM (and if you do not have an SSD drive, it can be a real nightmare).

Before shutting down a process Antimalware Service Executable , check again at task manager whether it is exactly loading your system.

Note: To enter the Task Manager, use the shortcut keys Ctrl + Alt + Del or Ctrl + Shift + Esc.

Method number 1

We go to the Windows control panel, open the "System and Security" section, then the link "Administration" (relevant for Windows 7/8/10). Then open "Computer Management" (see the screen below, it is shown to everyone).

Note: an alternative way is to press the Win + R key combination and enter the compmgmt.msc command into the Run window.

Opening computer control

Next, open the tab in computer management: "Task Scheduler -> Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Windows Defender" (see screen below, designation 1 and 2).

Further, on all four tasks in this tab, click "Finish" and then "Disable" (designations 3 and 4 in the screenshot below).

Computer management - disable verification

Thus, all tasks should be disabled for you (as in the example below).

Disable all 4 tasks

Method number 2

You must first open the Group Policy Editor. This requires:

  1. hold down the combination of buttons Win + R;
  2. enter the command gpedit.msc in the "Open" line. An example is shown below.

Note: The Group Policy Editor is not available in all versions of Windows. For example, if you have a home version, you do not have an editor (in this case, you need to either upgrade the PRO OS, or reinstall it).

gpedit.msc - launch the group policy editor

In the Group Policy Editor, open the section: "Local Computer -> Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Defender Antivirus.

Next open the parameter Turn off Windows Defender Antivirus and enable this option.

Disable the defender

That's it, now the defender should be turned off!

PS

The first

I also recommend that you read another similar article about completely disabling the defender in Windows 10 (in 8 - the same way) - //ocomp.info/otklyuchit-zashhitnik-windows-10.html. There are several ways to disable it: through the control panel, through the registry, and the group policy editor (useful to everyone who did not fit the above two methods).

Second

After disabling Windows Defender (or its individual functions), I recommend installing some kind of classic antivirus to protect against malware. 👉 I recommend my selection ->
