Face recognition by photo: is it possible to find a person's contacts by his photo

Good day!

Here is such a seemingly simple question on today's agenda ... 👀

In general, this problem may arise when, for example, you saw a photo of some celebrity, but you just can't remember who it is (they forgot ... But curiosity does not subside ...). Or, say, leafing through your photo album and stumbled upon a photo with an old friend - they were eager to find him, sit, remember the old years ...

On the one hand, it is not difficult to solve this question, on the other, the results are always different (either you immediately hit the target, then you generally don’t find anyone). In this post I will try to suggest why this is happening and give the simplest ways to find "faces" by their photos ... 👇

Facial recognition methods on the network

Option 1

Search engines (Yandex, Google, etc.) have long had a search function not by a certain phrase (word turnover), but by a photo. Those. they can compare the image you specified with millions of other images and photos on the network - and present the most similar ones to you. In general, I highly recommend starting your search with this method!

For my example, I took a photo of one fairly well-known actress (see below 👇).

Maria Mironova (photo - Getty Images)

After that, to search for it, you need to open, for example, Yandex pictures, click on the camera icon to the right of the button "To find" and load this photo from your hard drive.

Yandex - search by image

Further, if the person in the photo is relatively popular (well, or at least his photo was included in the search engine index) - in the search results you will see the sites where it is found. In most cases, next to the photo, you can find your full name ...

That's all recognition! 👌

Option 2

Search on VK and OK: //search4faces.com/

Search on VK: //findclone.ru/

These services allow you to search for the most popular social media. networks (the method is more suitable for finding ordinary people who are not published in various magazines).

I note that it is possible to find not only a specific person (if he exists 👀), but also his counterparts (people who are very similar to him).

Use the services in the same way as search engines (also upload photos, wait 5-10 seconds, and view the results 👇).

Please note that the service finds not only an exact match in the photo, but also similar faces / Find Clone

By the way, the Find Clone service offers to search for free several times, and then asks to deposit a small amount of funds into the account ...

Option 3

Search among celebrities (lookalikes): //www.pictriev.com/

Search through a huge photo archive: //tineye.com/

Face recognition among foreign social media networks, sites: //www.betaface.com/demo.html

This group of sites will suit you if you are looking for some celebrity (especially foreign ones), or if you want to find out which one of them you look like.

For example, the site www.pictriev.com determines the gender of the person in the photo, his age, and also shows who he looks like (under each search result there is a percentage of similarity, see below 👇).

In general, for a more or less complete search, I would recommend using all the resources and methods given in the article.

In addition, if, in addition to a photo of a person, you have his name, perhaps an e-mail or something else, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with one of my previous notes (see the link below 👇).

Important! Why can't I find anyone

To achieve the best search results, you need to consider a number of the following features:

  1. the higher the quality and resolution of the original face photo (which you use for the search), the better the results will be!
  2. it is highly desirable to have an unedited and not retouched photo (it's just that many people now improve the quality of pictures with the help of photo editors, and, of course, this interferes with recognition ...);
  3. if it is possible to take a frontal photo (i.e. from which the person is looking directly at you) - it is highly recommended to do so. Various shots from the side, at an angle, etc. - much worse in terms of recognition and search;
  4. if in the photo you have captured a lot of other objects and people in addition to the desired face, it is highly recommended to crop all the "unnecessary";
  5. if you have several photos, it is better to choose the one in which the person does not experience any vivid emotions (smile, tears, screaming, flowing hair in the wind, etc. - can significantly reduce the search quality);
  6. it is possible that nothing can be found due to the fact that the person is not public (i.e. he is not registered in social networks, and does not upload his photos). By the way, according to statistics: various celebrities are much easier and faster to find ☝ ...
