How to set up and use torrent on Android (or how to download torrent files from your phone)

Good time everyone!

I think it's especially pointless to argue that so many files can now be found only on torrent trackers. And in some situations, downloading torrents directly to the phone is much more convenient than first to a PC, and then manually transferring them to an SD card and connecting it to a smartphone. Well, if you don't have a PC at hand, then you don't have to choose ...

By the way, you may also need to download a torrent using a smartphone in cases where the download speed is very low on a PC (by the way, I already had a separate material on my blog - //ocomp.info/utorrent-kachaet-s-mal- skorostyu.html).

In general, in this small note I will show with an example how you can quickly set up a torrent client on the most ordinary typical phone running Android ...

Note: it is recommended to use a phone with at least 2 GB of RAM and 10 ÷ 15 GB of free memory space. This will avoid brakes while the application is running in the background (downloading / uploading torrents).

Using a torrent client on Android

 ❶

A few words about connection (traffic)

As a rule, downloading and serving torrents requires a fairly good Internet connection (and preferably unlimited traffic). So far, at the current average tariffs, mobile operators do not give much GB of incoming traffic, and therefore I would recommend using torrents only with an unlimited Wi-Fi connection.

Is Wi-Fi working ...

However, if you choose the uTorrent client (which I recommend staying on), then there is a special one in its settings. function: downloading / uploading files is allowed only if there is a Wi-Fi connection. How to enable it will be shown below ...

Choosing a torrent client

As well as for Windows - quite a lot of different torrent clients have already been released for Android. But, as I said above, I would still recommend uTorrent to start getting to know them on Android. Why:

  • it is supported by most torrent trackers;
  • it has functions to limit download / upload (so as not to "eat" traffic accidentally);
  • good and stable background work.

By the way, the program interface is practically no different from the computer version (see the screen below).

UTorrent main window

Please note that after starting uTorrent, you will see an icon in the status bar (it will always tell you if the application is active). It is very convenient, considering that when you normally close the application window, it continues to work (note: you need to use the "exit" button in the program menu).

Important client settings

After installing uTorrent, before downloading torrents, I would first recommend going into its settings (note: there is a special icon of three stripes in the top menu to view the parameters ...), and:

  1. enable the traffic saving function (so that torrents are downloaded only over Wi-Fi). Although, if you have unlimited mobile traffic, you can omit this step;
  2. set the maximum number of active torrents (if you are going to download a lot of any "good", I recommend installing 2-3 active torrents - this will avoid brakes and freezes of the phone);
  3. disable autostart (this thing can seriously affect the phone's responsiveness when turned on). See the settings screen below.

Loading

As for the direct download of torrents - then on the phone it is the same as on the PC. Go to the torrent tracker website, select the file you like, and click on the link "Download torrent ..." - the resulting file with the extension ".torrent" the uTorrent application will open automatically directly from the browser (by the way, the download starts immediately, in auto-mode). See example below.

Start loading

If you click on the torrent file itself (already added to uTorrent), you can see more detailed information about it (date and time of download, speed, peers, seeds, etc.). See screenshots below.

The folder where the torrent is saved (how to transfer)

To find out or change the download folder - click on the torrent file and go to the tab "Intelligence" ... The location of the download torrent should be indicated at the bottom of the window. If you click on this path, you will have the opportunity to change it.

Download folder

Please note that uTorrent allows you to download files both to your phone memory and directly to your SD card. After specifying a new path for the changes to take effect, do not forget to click on the button "Save" .

New location

A few words about exiting the application

If you just close or minimize the application, it will continue to work (i.e. it will download / upload files). You can track the operation of the application by a small icon in the status bar (next to the name of the mobile operator, arrow-1 in the screenshot below).

To completely stop the work of uTorrent - use the button in the menu "Output" (arrow-2 below).

Exiting the program

In general, that's all for now.

The process itself is almost the same as on a PC ...

Good luck!
