The game slows down on Intel HD. How to tune the game and Intel HD graphics card so that there are no brakes

Good day!

Recently, integrated Intel HD graphics cards are gaining popularity. And along with this, many people often encounter brakes in various games ...

In general, I must immediately note that it is for games that Intel HD seems to be not intended (and, most likely, you should have been warned about this when buying a PC / laptop).

However, if it so happened that you do not have a discrete graphics card in addition to Intel HD, but you have an irresistible desire to launch the game, in this article I will suggest several solutions to the problem.

👉 By the way!

1) Not so long ago, a cloud service appeared for game lovers - it allows you to run any new items on old PCs!

2) I also recommend that you read the article on why games slow down (even on a powerful computer).

Getting rid of brakes and freezes in games on Intel HD

1) Configure your graphics card for maximum 3D performance

Many users do not pay attention to the settings of the video card driver. Meanwhile, by setting the maximum performance in 3D applications, you can speed up the operation of the video card and get an increase in FPS of up to 10-20% (what is FPS - reference article)... The amount of FPS increase, by the way, depends on the type of game, the quality of the graphics, etc. Agree that, in general, it is quite good?

To do this, you need to go to the video driver settings. To do this, as a rule, it is enough to click on the Intel HD icon in the tray (or with the right mouse button on an empty space on the desktop). See screenshot below.

How to enter Intel HD settings

👉 Note!

If you do not have such shortcuts and links, then most likely you simply do not have the drivers installed on the video adapter (for example, you did not update them after reinstalling Windows).

You can find out how to update the video driver here: //ocomp.info/kak-obnovit-drayver-na-videokartu.html

Going into the settings of the video card, first of all open the 3D section and set the settings for maximum performance (you can see an example on the screenshot below).

Depending on the version of the video driver, you may have some differences from the screen below (the main thing: set the maximum performance in this tab).

Further in the settings in the section "Power supply / Mains operation" - also set the increased performance.

Note that when operating on battery power, achieve max. performance is not always possible (especially if the battery is already a little bit hungry).

In general, after saving the settings and restarting the game, you should already notice some changes for the better. In addition, I recommend that you carry out some more optimization steps presented below.

2) Set the power mode to high performance

This primarily applies to laptops ...

The fact is that in the software settings of laptops their performance is often limited. This is done in order, for example, to extend their battery life, reduce noise, and prevent overheating of devices.

To get started, I recommend clicking on the "battery" icon on the taskbar (next to the clock). In most cases, right in it, you can set the slider to the highest performance mode (see the screenshot below).

Choosing between productivity and runtime

You can also go to the Windows Control Panel, in the "Hardware and Sound" section and open the tab "Power supply" .

Power Supply // Windows Control Panel

Several power supply modes will be presented here, among which there is a mode "High performance" ... I recommend choosing it.

High performance

I draw your attention to the fact that some laptops have special control centers (for example, Lenovo, Sony and a number of others). These centers also allow you to tune both performance, power modes, and display settings.

Examples of such centers are presented below. If you have a similar center, you can open it through the START menu; or using the section in the control panel "Hardware and Sound"; or simply by searching from the taskbar.

3) Optimize game settings (see recommended by Intel)

The graphics settings directly in the game itself have a very large impact on the image quality and the number of FPS.

What you should pay attention to first of all with brakes and friezes:

  1. screen resolution: the lower it is, the less the load on the video card, and the higher the number of FPS. Has a very significant effect on performance;
  2. vertical sync: try to enable / disable, compare when better. Very often has a strong impact on the number of FPS;
  3. full screen / windowed: if the game lags in full screen mode, try windowed;
  4. quality of graphics, textures, bumps, shadows, effects, etc. - all this also has a significant impact on performance. Try to alternately reduce these parameters to a minimum (or turn them off altogether) until you find your balance.
  5. anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, etc.: I recommend turning it off for max. productivity.

Note that many users find it difficult to find the optimal graphics settings in certain games. This is probably why Intel went to meet all gamers and created a page on its official website, which lists the optimal graphics settings for games for certain Intel HD video cards.

Official page: //gameplay.intel.com/ru/

For a recommendation, you need to know the name of the game and the model of your processor (video card). If you do not know the processor, use the utilities to determine the characteristics of the PC.

Let me show you with an example. After going to the page, indicate the processor (by the way, tips pop up on the site, so choosing is simple and easy).

Specify the processor

Next, select a game from the list (the site contains most of the popular and well-known games). For example, I took WOW: Legion.

And finally, we see all the settings that are recommended by the official video card manufacturer. We do the same for ourselves in the game and enjoy a pleasant pastime.

4) Optimize Windows OS

Also, the optimization of Windows OS helps to reduce the amount of brakes in games. Optimization refers to the following steps:

  1. disabling unnecessary services for you (less memory, processor power is consumed);
  2. removing junk and unnecessary files, cleaning the registry (the system becomes more responsive and faster, there will also be more free disk space);
  3. defragmentation of the hard disk and the system registry (acceleration of the disk subsystem and OS);
  4. disabling unnecessary programs in Windows startup (more free RAM, less load on disk, processor).

All these steps and some others are highly recommended for anyone who is dissatisfied with the performance of their system. You can find out how to do this from one of my articles, the link below.

5) Check if you have Turbo Boost enabled

On Intel Core i5, i7 processors (i3 8th generation) there are specials. Self-acceleration technology (Turbo Boost): i.e. under high load, the processor starts to run at a higher frequency. However, it is not always involved ...
