Disable driver digital signature verification in Windows 10 (or what to do with the error: "third-party INF does not contain signature information")

Good day!

Most modern drivers (which are available for download from major hardware vendor sites) are digitally signed. This signature "protects" you from a large number of errors, incompatibility problems, viruses, and so on. However, each rule has its exceptions ...

For example, you have old hardware that needs to be connected to a new PC (or you found a driver not from an official manufacturer that can speed up your video card). Of course, when installing it, Windows will give you an error something like:

"The digital signature of the drivers required for this device cannot be verified .... The third-party INF does not contain signature information."

To still install the driver without a digital signature, you need to disable the special. protection. This is not difficult to do, and below I will present a couple of ways. However, I cannot but warn you that the installation of such software can cause all sorts of problems (create a restore point in order to quickly return everything to its original state).

How to disable digital signature verification of drivers

Important: a few words about the first step before installing unknown drivers

I would like to warn everyone who plans to install a driver without a digital signature. After this action, it may happen that your Windows OS will not boot. And if you do not prepare in advance for "such a turn", you will have to waste a lot of time reinstalling the system, setting up and restoring programs, etc.

Therefore, before updating and installing "unknown" drivers, I would advise you to do a few of things:

1) create a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 10 (from which you can then start and restore the system).

2) copy all important documents to external media (cloud drive).

3) create a restore point (it will help you roll back to the previous drivers if the new ones start to work unstably and the system will not boot normally).

To create a restore point: open the Windows Control Panel and go to the section "System and Security \ System" (or just open Explorer and open the properties of this computer, as shown in the screenshot below).

Properties of this computer

Then go to advanced system parameters.

Additional system parameters

Open the tab "System protection" , enable system disk protection and create a restore point (see example below).

Create a restore point

Then you just need to enter the name of the restore point and wait for its creation (as a rule, it takes 1-2 minutes).

System protection - point creation

Now you can proceed to installing new unknown software. If suddenly something goes wrong, the instructions (the link to which is presented below) will help you quickly restore the system by rolling back to the created point.

The first method (temporary, works until the next reboot)

This method is the most versatile and convenient, because works in all versions of Windows 10. In addition, in most cases, permanent disabling of signature verification is not required - many users just need to install 1-2 drivers and "forget" about it for a while 👌.

Let's look at a simple example how this is done ...

1) First, open START and go to Windows settings.

Parameters

2) Open the section Update & Security / Recovery and use the tool special boot options (see screenshot below).

Special download options

3) Next, go to the section:

Diagnostics—> Advanced options—> Boot options

A button should appear at the bottom of the window " Reload " - we use it.

Reboot

4) After restarting, Windows will show us a window with boot parameters - you need to select the boot option for the system, in which it will not check the signature of the drivers (this is point 7 - to select it, you need to press the key F7) .

Disable mandatory driver signature verification

5) Now, after booting the system and starting the driver installation, you should see a security warning window: in it you can click on the option "Install this driver anyway" ... Task completed, see example below.

Could not verify the publisher of these drivers - error

Important!

After the next Windows reboot, the driver signature check will turn on again (previously installed drivers (without a signature) should work, but installing new ones will not work).

Second way (permanent)

This option for disabling signature verification is suitable for those who often have to reinstall drivers, connect various hardware for testing, etc. (or, if the first method does not work for some reason). Of course, the disconnection occurs until the time when you yourself do not enable the check again ...

Note: This method is not available for stripped-down home versions of Windows 10.

1) And so, first you need to open the group policy editor: for this you need to press the keys at the same time Win + R, and in the appeared window "Run" enter commandgpedit.msc... An example is shown below.

gpedit.msc - launch the group policy editor

2) After, in the opened editor window go to the following section:

User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Driver Installation

It must have a parameter "Digitally Signing Device Drivers" , you need to open it (see the screen below).

Local Group Policy Editor / Clickable

3) Next, switch the mode to "Disabled" , save your settings and restart your computer. Signature verification will no longer work (until your new instruction, or until the next major Windows update 👌).

Add-ons would be welcome as always ...

Happy work!
