How to glue and join two or more videos into one file // video editing lesson

All the best!

Quite a popular task in video processing is combining several clips into one video file.

This may be needed, for example, when you shot a home video, and now you want to organize your recordings and make one video or clip, which you can later demonstrate to the rest ...

In general, this problem can be solved in different ways, and there are a lot of programs for "gluing" videos. But no matter how you solve the problem, there is a certain a number of problemsthat you have to deal with. 👀

I will voice them right away:

1) video formats: the fact is that each video (it often happens) is saved in its own format, with different codecs. These can be files: AVI, MPG, WMV, MP4, MKV, FLV, etc. Many programs when working - just give errors and refuse to work with such a motley "command";

2) number of frames: the point is that each video has a certain number of frames, and when you join two videos together, you need to "search" for the average to merge them. In general, it is not so easy (and I don’t want to delve into it now, we will avoid it!).

It is more important to know that in case of any error with the number of frames - you can get the effect of desynchronization of audio with video - i.e. either the sound will lag behind, or vice versa ahead of the video.

Now I will write my thoughts on a quick and easy solution to the listed problems (moreover, the user does not even need to think about them). 👌

Combining two, three or more videos into one file

Method 1

The simplest option for solving the current problem is to use the Video-MONTAZH program (just below 👇 I will give a couple of reasons why it is it).

Video INSTALLATION

Website: //video-editor.su/

By the way, there is a series of lessons on creating your own video.

Video-MONTAGE is a simple and convenient video editor, completely in Russian (with support for Windows 7, 8.1, 10).

Allows you to easily and quickly create your own videos, going through a convenient sequence of steps (in fact: the program itself is a step-by-step video creation wizard). Why I recommend using it for pasting multiple videos:

  • it opens and connects any video formats: AVI, MKV, MPG, WMV, etc .;
  • the user is only required to arrange the videos in the desired order and select the transitions between them;
  • there is no out-of-sync problem (which I mentioned above).

How to combine 3 videos in 1 - step by step

1) Project creation

After starting the program, a window with a choice will appear in front of us - click on the item "new project" (as in the screenshot below 👇).

New project (Video-Editing 9.25)

2) Choosing the aspect ratio (if the program prompts you to do this) *

In the next window, we may be asked to set the aspect ratio of the video. In this case, you can choose:

  1. automatic (set by the first video);
  2. 16: 9 - widescreen video (👍 one of the most popular, recommended);
  3. 4: 3 - format for old TVs (it was once popular, now it is a new trend);
  4. another format (which you define yourself).

In my opinion, you need to install: either the automatic version, or 16: 9. It's up to you ...

3) Add video

The next step is to add all of your videos to the project. I recommend adding them in the order in which you want to connect them. For example, I added 3 videos (screenshot below).

To add a video: in the middle you have several buttons with different options. In general, press the button "Add video" and select the file you want.

Please note that ALL added videos start to appear on the lower scale in a specific sequence (depending on when you added which video). See the red arrows in the screenshot below.👇

Added 3 videos per track (Video Editing 9.25)

4) Editing

By the way, you can change the order of the videos at any time (just drag them with the mouse, or use the option - edit / copy, edit / paste, edit / delete)!

One more thing - between all videos, the program puts a 2-second transition (well, that is, the video will not immediately start showing, but somehow with a fading effect, with page flipping, etc.).

To view all transitions - you can use the corresponding section.

Transitions and Playback Sequence (Video Editing 9.25)

5) Removing transitions (well, or adding ...)

Since I didn’t need transitions (I think it’s possible for you), you can and should delete them. Pay attention to the lower part of the window: there are small ones between the large squares with the video. These are transitions ...

To delete a transition: right-click on this square and then select "Delete" from the menu.

Note: the number 0 is displayed on the remote transition (instead of the default 2 seconds).

Delete transition

6) Selecting the format for saving

In general, when all the video files are added and arranged in the desired order, and there are no questions about the transitions, click on the button "Save video" and then select the option "Create AVI Video File" (see screenshot below).

Note: by the way, the "Video-Montage" program can save video in other formats, for example, create a full-fledged DVD, HD video, video for phones (tablets, smartphones), etc.

In general, in my opinion, this greatly facilitates and helps novice users to quickly and easily save their videos. In my example, I choose the option with AVI - since it is the most popular format today!

Save video

7) Choosing a codec and specifying the size of the resulting video

Next, you need to specify the codec, video extension, and bitrate (video and audio). In this regard, the "Video-MONTAZH" program deserves the highest praise:

  1. firstly, you can choose the codec yourself: Xvid, Divx, H.264 - in general, they are about the same and provide excellent video quality;
  2. secondly, you can change the resolution yourself;
  3. thirdly, the program tells you in advance what size will be the final file. That's great! Imagine, you have ~ 500 MB left on a flash drive (or CD / DVD) and you need to fit a specific video file there. No problem - manually enter the size you need, and the program will automatically select the desired bitrate!

Codec selection, output size setting and saving (Video Editing 9.25)

In general, after selecting the codec and video size, press the button "Create video" (at the bottom of the window).

8) Video encoding

Next comes the boring part - the computer will start to encode your videos.

Time for coding whichever program you use is always quite significant! In general, it depends on: the power of your PC, its loading at the moment, on the number of clips (more precisely, on their total length), on the codec with which the original videos are compressed (and into which you want to compress).

Coding time

I will notethat merging video quickly without re-encoding is a rather difficult task (for each type of file you need to use its own special utilities). And if you have files of different formats (and encoded with different codecs), then without transcoding into one format, this is impossible. Therefore, in any case - just wait ...

9) Done!

If everything went well, a small window will appear about the completion of the conversion (an example is shown below 👇).

Everything is OK!

Method 2

The issue can be solved in a slightly more complex video editor - 👉 Movavi Video Suite (link to official site).

It is designed for a more prepared user, but it offers more options and capabilities (although, on the other hand, they are unlikely to be useful to most).

However, be that as it may, consider the process of combining videos in it.

*

1) And so, after installing and running the program - create new project .

New project - Movavi Video Suite

2) Next, add video files to the track at the bottom of the window (in that sequenceswhere you need to connect them!).

We transfer files in the right order

3) Then you can add filters and transitions (if necessary). For example, you can lighten / darken a video, highlight edges, add jitter, and more.

Add filters (if necessary)

4) Well, the last step is saving the video.

In this regard, the Movavi editor is somewhat inferior to the previous products: it does not allow you to know the file size in advance (and this is a very useful thing in some cases!).

Save to your computer

Method 3

In addition to the editors, you can use one free converter for merging - 👉 "Format Factory" (link to the developers' site).

The program works fast enough, you can combine any number of clips, and this is done very simply!

Perhaps the only drawback: in some rare cases, when combining, the sound "leaves" (starts to lag behind or ahead).

Now to the point ...

*

1) After starting the program - pay attention to the side menu. Run specials. function "Merge video" .

Merge Videos (Format Factory)

2) Next, add the required number of clips to the project, and arrange them in the order in which you want to combine (arrow-2 👇). Then click "OK".

Add files to the project (Format Factory)

3) To start the process of converting and merging - click "Start" .

Start!

4) When the operation is completed, a status will appear next to the video "Done" ... By clicking on it with the left mouse button, you can open the folder where the final video will be saved.

Done (Format Factory)

The problem is solved! 👌

Actually, this completes my mini-instructions for combining several videos into one.

Hope you can easily glue everything you need together.

All the best!
