New AMD Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Drivers Settings and Interface

Good day!

In general, as a rule, I never write "news" and reviews of some updates, new versions of drivers, etc. But now a separate case ...

The fact is that we (it seems) say goodbye to the usual package of Catalyst drivers, tk. it is being replaced by a new version of the Crimson Edition (or Crimson ReLive (Crimson means "crimson")).

Main innovations: completely redesigned interface (you can't recognize it!); improved installer; parameters and settings are spaced out so that it is much faster and easier to change them. The name of the control panel is now simply "Radeon Settings" (and not, as before, "Catalyst settings control center ...").

I also cannot help but note that the control panel began to open much faster (and indeed it became more responsive), there are presets for quickly optimizing the video card for performance (or for quality), more advanced settings for displaying the "picture" on the display appeared, did not pass by and the ability to overclock the GPU.

In general, everything turned out very interesting (at least, it certainly did not get worse). Actually, in this post I will give a dozen screenshots of the new interface with small comments and a description of a number of key parameters ...

The note!

Remember to update your video driver before configuring it. You can find out how to do this in this note - //ocomp.info/kak-obnovit-drayver-na-videokartu.html

AMD Radeon Settings (Crimson ...): settings overview and new interface

And so, if you have installed (and updated) video drivers - in the tray (next to the clock) you should have an icon from AMD (somewhat reminiscent of raspberries). To enter the settings (AMD control panel) - just double-click on it.

By the way, if we talk about this icon, I can't help but notice that the developers have added a mega-useful feature: you can optimize the operation of the video card in 2 mouse clicks for performance or quality ... For example, during normal work, you can "sit" on quality, as soon as you start the game and see slowdowns (or just want to increase the FPS) - press the WIN key, change the preset (see the screen below) and re-enter the game. Conveniently?!

AMD Radeon - Optimize Quality or Performance

Note that the picture quality drops significantly when optimized for performance (as an example, I cite a screen of the same game window, noticeably when zoomed in). When working for performance, the sharpness of the image drops, some edges and elements are not drawn well enough - but thanks to this, the FPS rises (that is, the option is clearly not made for simple "show").

The difference between optimization for performance and quality / Clickable (the difference is noticeable when you enlarge the picture)

Now for the control panel itself.

On the first login, I would recommend opening the tab immediately "Settings" ("Settings"). In it, you can change the language (note: for some, the English version is activated by default), turn off notifications, advertising banners, restore factory settings. In general, everything is very basic.

Settings (General) / AMD Radeon

By the way, please note that all video card settings are divided into 4 large sections: "Games", "Video", "Display" and "System".

Of greatest interest is the section "Games" ... Here you can set both global settings for all launched 3D applications, and for each game separately.

Global Settings (AMD Radeon Settings)

Tab features "global graphics settings" are presented in the screenshot below. Those parameters and settings that were previously presented in different sections ("Antialiasing", "Texture filtering", "Frame rate control", "Tessellation") have now been combined into one.

Note!

What these parameters mean (anti-aliasing mode, anti-aliasing method, anisotropic filtering mode, etc.), and how to set them for max. performance - you can find out from this note: //ocomp.info/kak-uskorit-videokartu-amd-radeon.html

AMD Radeon - Game Settings Section

Tab "Video" presented rather "sparingly" (in my opinion): you can choose 1 of 8 modes (default, classic cinema, extended, home video, outdoor, sports, intense, custom value).

AMD Radeon - video

By the way, you can also change the video profile with two clicks using the tray icon.

The video profile can also be changed with 2 clicks of the mouse

I cannot but note that as I did not change the video profiles, I did not notice a significant change in the image (except for brightness and contrast, in my opinion, these profiles do not change anything).

An example of changing the video profile: the difference on the screenshots is almost imperceptible (stills from the movie "Oz the Great and Powerful").

In chapter "Display" there are some interesting options:

  1. AMD FreeSync is an option that allows you to make the picture in the game smoother (note: your monitor must also support this feature). To make it easier to understand what is at stake - take a look at the photo below;

    Comparison of the picture on the monitor - with the dynamic frequency control enabled, and with the disabled

  2. Virtual ultra-high resolution: allows you to remove "jags", fuzziness, and so on. changes from it incl.));
  3. GPU scaling: useful if your game (for example) has black bars on the sides (helps to remove them). Personally, I never use this thing myself;
  4. Zoom mode: about the same;
  5. Vari-Bright: Adjusts the brightness of the monitor based on operating conditions (for example, brightness may decrease if your device is running on battery power). I do not recommend turning it on, because from frequent changes in brightness, eyes may start to get tired;

AMD Radeon - display

In chapter "System" you can familiarize yourself with the characteristics of your hardware: the model of the video card, the amount of RAM, the software version, the type of memory, etc. By the way, this section has three tabs "Overview", "Software", and "Hardware" (there is enough information about the system and hardware lot) .

AMD Radeon - system

However, you can't do without AIDA64 (😒). For example, AMD Settings clearly lacks monitoring of temperature, FPS, frequencies, CPU core load, etc. Moreover, this should be done so that this data can be easily displayed in the corner of the screen of any game (3D application).

That's all for now. Happy work!
