Computer, laptop comes out of sleep CAM. Why, how to fix it?

User question

Good day.

Tell me with one question: I put the laptop into sleep mode at night so that I can quickly turn it on in the morning. But at night the laptop turns on by itself.

Why is this happening and how to make sure that he does not come out of it? By the way, by experience I noticed that he wakes up at night at the same time - at about 3 o'clock ...

Greetings to all!

Quite a common problem actually. It is found both on ordinary computers and on laptops. There can be quite a few reasons for this, in this article I will give a course of actions (step by step) to identify the "culprit" of the awakening and eliminate this problem.

So...

Note: all steps in this article are valid for Windows 7/8/10.

👉 Remark!

By the way, pay attention to pets: for example, cats often like to play with a mouse (note: computer ✌) or sleep on a warm laptop keyboard, thereby waking it up. Of course, I understand that this is pretty obvious, and yet ...

Reasons for waking up from sleep mode

STEP 1: Determine who woke the PC from hibernation using the log

The first thing I recommend to start "debriefing" is to identify the culprit who woke up your computer. To do this, you need to use magazine (Windows is smart enough and by default it logs all power-ups, power-downs, errors, etc.).

How to open the event log:

  1. open 👉 Windows Control Panel;
  2. then go to the section "System and safety" ;
  3. In chapter "Administration" open the link "Viewing event logs" , see screenshot below.

Windows event log

In the event log you need to open the section "Windows Logs" , then go to the tab "system" , and view all events in which the source is listed in the column "Power-Troubleshooter" (i.e. awakening).

Guided by the turn-on time (that is, the exit from sleep mode) of your laptop / PC, you can find the desired event. When you find it - just click on it once with the left mouse button, and you will see exit source .

In my case, this is "Exit Source: Timer - The scheduled task" NT TASK \ Microsoft \ Windows \ UpdateOrchestrator \ Reboot "will be executed, requesting that the computer wake up." , see screenshot below. 👇

Wake up source

Those. having learned from the event that this happens by a timer, we simply turn it off (in the task scheduler) and the problem is solved.

Note: below in this article 👇 it is also discussed how to disable wake up by timers (and other things).

In many cases, by the error code and event description, you can solve the problem! 👌

STEP 2: analysis of "readings" from the command line

You can also find out the reason for waking up using the command line.

To open the command line, press the combination of buttons Win + R, into line "Open" enter CMD and press Enter, see screenshot below.

cmd - run command line

At the command prompt, enter powercfg.exe / lastwake and press Enter (example below). In the line "Type" you will see the reason for waking up, in the example below - the reason is the same "Wake up timer" .

powercfg.exe / lastwake

By the way, just below is a screenshot of the case when the computer is awakened by the mouse button.

Awakened by the left mouse button

In general, to more accurately determine the "one" who woke up the computer, pay attention to the description line and the device path:

  1. if the path starts with ACPI, then this is either a power button, or a mouse, or a keyboard (not USB);
  2. USB \ ROOT_HUB - woke up some USB device (maybe the same mouse if you have it connected to USB);
  3. PCI \ VEN - usually the culprit is a network card, or a USB 3.0 controller, sometimes a TV tuner;
  4. HID - mouse or keyboard.

By the way, there is another very useful command - powercfg -devicequery wake_armed ... It allows you to find out which devices are currently allowed to wake up the computer / laptop from sleep mode (an example is shown below 👇).

How to prevent devices and timers from waking up your PC

And so, we will consider the culprits we have found. Now you need to prevent them from waking up the PC.

In principle, if you have not even found the culprit, you can follow all the procedures sequentially, most likely, this will help you.

We put a ban on timers

First, open the Windows Control Panel at the following address:

Control Panel \ Hardware and Sound \ Power

In this section, open the settings for the current power scheme.

Setting the current power plan

Next, open the link to change advanced power settings.

Change add. power parameters

In the "Sleep" section, you need to find the "Allow wake-up timers" tab, then set "Disable" in front of the items from the battery and from the network (as in the screenshot below 👇).

Disabling the wake-up from the timer from the mains and from the battery!

We prohibit the mouse and network card to wake up the PC

If the reason for waking up the computer is in a mouse, network adapter or any other device, the method of prohibiting waking up the PC will be the same:

  • need to open 👉 device Manager;
  • then find your device in it and open it properties;
  • in the tab power management uncheck the enable exit from standby mode. I'll show you a couple of examples below.

Mouse, usually located in the section "Mice and other pointing devices" ... Find a HID-Compliant Mouse here and open it properties (note: right click on the device).

Mouse properties

Further in the tab "Power Management" uncheck the box next to the item "Allow this device to wake up the computer" .

Removing the permission for the mouse

By the way, the mouse can also be in the section "HID Devices" (check it too).

To disable wake up the network adapter, open the tab "Network adapters" , and go to its properties (example below).

Network adapters / device manager

In general, further the same - open the tab "Power Management" and uncheck the coveted checkbox, save the settings.

Network adapter power management

Important!

Of course, you need to remove the permission to take the computer out of standby mode for all devices: keyboard, mouse, network adapter.

Moreover, if you connect a new keyboard or mouse to the laptop / PC, this action will need to be performed again (since the driver for the device will be updated and the settings will be changed!).

We prohibit automatic maintenance to wake up the PC

First, open the Windows Windows Control Panel, the section is as follows:

Control Panel \ System and Security \ Security and Maintenance

In this section, expand the tab "Service" .

Next, find the subsection "Automatic maintenance" and click on the link "Change service parameters" ... See screenshot below.

Automatic maintenance

Now uncheck the box next to "Allow the maintenance task to wake up my computer at the scheduled time" ... Save the settings (you need administrator rights)!

Removed permission for auto-service

👉 Note!

In Windows 10, by default, this checkbox is unchecked. But still, you never know, I recommend checking it with a similar problem!

That's all for me. I hope the problem was solved.

For additions on the topic - thank you in advance.

Good luck!
