ZyXEL Keenetic: how to enter the router settings (my.keenetic.net)

Good time!

ZyXEL brand routers are one of the most popular on the Russian market. And, unfortunately, in my humble opinion, they are not the most problem-free (common "sores": problems with logging into the web interface, buggy firmware, reboots at high chip loads, not a friendly interface on old devices ...).

In this today's post, we will try to deal with one of the listed problems, namely, how to open the main settings page.

👉 Note! In general, in most cases, to configure a ZyXEL router, you just need to open the address: my.keenetic.net (just paste it into the address bar of your browser).

I note right away that ZyXEL has a lot of models: Air, Extra, Lite, Omni, Giga, Ultra, Viva, etc., but the principle of operation is the same everywhere (so that the note will be universal)!

And so, now closer to the topic ...

Entering the ZyXEL settings: step by step

STEP 1

The first thing to do is plug the router into an outlet (and make sure it shows signs of life - for example, the LEDs on it should light up ... ✔).

As an example - the router is working

Next, you need to either connect the computer to the router with a LAN cable, or connect to a wireless Wi-Fi network.

Note: for the first connection to a Wi-Fi network - the password and login are indicated on the sticker located on the router case. See examples of labels in step 2 below.

In any case, no matter how you connect the router to your computer, the network icon in the Windows tray should clearly change for you (see examples below).

Wi-Fi network connected!

No network (router not connected!). As an example

STEP 2

And so, the router is working, the computer is connected to it. Now, to open the device settings, you need to launch the browser and go to one of the following addresses (just copy the address into the browser URL):

👉 my.keenetic.net

👉  192.168.1.1

(I deliberately do not provide links, because you do not need to insert "//" into the address bar of the browser! Also, you do not need to add "www" and other abbreviations ...)

The first address ( my.keenetic.net ) - universal, should work regardless of whether the factory presets of the device have been changed.

notethat on the case of the router (on the overwhelming majority of models) there is a special. sticker. It has several very important parameters: the name of the Wi-Fi network and the password to it (you need this when you first connect via Wi-Fi), the address of the web interface (settings) of the device. How it looks - see the picture below.

STEP 3

Next, the router will "ask" you to enter your login and password to enter the device's web interface (this data is indicated on the sticker, see the picture above).

By default this is:

👉 login: admin

👉 password: admin or 1234 or {empty field}

Please note that you need to enter in lower case without periods, dashes, quotes, etc.

In addition, if the router reports that the password is not correct, try it without it at all, leaving an empty field (also, when entering, see what language is installed - perhaps instead of "admin" it is written "fwsht").

KEENETIC Giga - login and password

By the way, some device models (for example, KEENETIC Lite) have a login and password hint (see the screenshot below). It remains only to enter them ...

KEENETIC Lite - the router itself prompts the password

STEP 4

If everything went well, the device's web interface should appear in front of you (in fact, it resembles a mini-site, which has a dozen sections and tabs where you can change certain parameters).

In general, this is where our task is solved (because there was no purpose to tell about the intricacies of router settings in this article ...). More about this here: //ocomp.info/wi-fi-routeryi/

What to do if you can't login

Quite a popular question ...

1) The first tip is pretty standard: restart your router and computer (laptop).

2) Next, pay attention to your browser: for example, Opera may have VPN enabled by default! If so, you will not be able to enter the router settings! By the way, many plugins and add-ons (antivirus, ad blocking, etc.) can also interfere with the loading of the router's web interface.

In general, I recommend using the Internet Explorer (Edge) browser for these tasks.

Opera - VPN enabled!

3) Check your network settings. To do this, press the combination Win + R, enter the command ncpa.cpl and press Enter. Next, open the properties of the current connection, then IP version 4, and check that the IP address and DNS server are obtained automatically (see the example in the screenshot below).

Obtain IP automatically

4) If you still can't log in from the computer, try to connect to the Wi-Fi network from your phone and go to the address my.keenetic.net ... In case of any problems on a PC, this method can really help out.

Is it just not all models of routers have an interface optimized for mobile devices, and it may not be very convenient to use ...

5) If all of the above did not help, it may be worth resetting the router settings to default (factory presets). To do this, there is a small "Reset" button on the router case - usually it is enough to hold it down with a pencil for 5-10 seconds.

Well, and also I can not but recommend another blog post, partially related to this topic. Link to it below.
