How to disable tracking in Windows 10 (privacy settings ⇑)

Good time!

In general, I would like to start the article right away by dispelling some myths... It's just that many users, having heard about the surveillance of Windows 10, think that the OS developers are plotting something "unkind" (they will steal files from a PC, or receive bank card details). 👀

In fact, Microsoft is engaged in looking after your interests, some search queries, "looking" for malicious files, analyzing voice data when working with Cortana.

All this is done to improve the operation of services, protect against malware, optimize and improve system performance. Those. intentions are very good ... 👌

However, it is a little frustrating that, in fact, the user was not asked for permission. Perhaps this is why many people prefer to disable this kind of tracking (increase privacy!), And in this article I would like to show how you can do it.

So...

*

👉 The best way to get rid of surveillance

Just disconnect the system from the Internet (physically, as in the photo below) and never connect to it. This is the only 100% protection! 😉

100% Tracking protection method ...

👉 Good advice!

Before you start configuring Windows, I recommend creating a restore point (so that you can always roll back to it in case of anything).

Privacy settings: turn off tracking

Option number 1: with the help of special. utilities

In connection with this resonance, quite a few utilities have been released that increase your privacy. They make it much easier and faster to set up the system. That is why I start the article with them: the most simple and effective of them, from the point of view of an ordinary user, I will present below.

*

Ashampoo AntiSpy for Windows 10

Officer. website: //www.ashampoo.com

A very handy free utility from Ashampoo. Completely in Russian and does not need installation.

AntiSpy by Ashampoo (the number of settings is amazing)

All parameters are divided into sections: general, location, microphone, camera, advertising, cortana, etc.

To enable / disable the desired parameter, just toggle one slider. For those who do not want to manually configure everything, there is a recommended version of the preset settings (convenient!).

*

O&O ShutUp10

Website: //www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

O&O ShutUp10 - the utility even recommends how to configure settings

This utility is also completely in Russian, and does not need to be installed (you need administrator rights to work).

Why it captivates: opposite each item in the settings menu there is a recommendation whether to disable the parameter. Also in the top menu there are recommended preset settings (so as not to overlook and configure everything manually ...).

Option number 2: manually configure the OS

STEP 1: local account

On Windows 10, you can use a Microsoft account and local account. Many people choose a Microsoft account when installing the system (as recommended by the developers).

Therefore, the first thing I recommend is to go to Windows settings (you can either through the START menu, or using the keyboard shortcut Win + i ) and open the section "Accounts" .

Accounts

Further in the settings follow the link "Sign in with a local account instead" .

Login instead with a local account

STEP 2: general

In general, Windows 10 has a whole section of settings responsible for privacy (see the screenshot below). In this and the steps listed below, we will change the parameters just in it.

Confidentiality

In the tab "General" disable two options:

  • "Allow apps to use ad ID ...";
  • "Allow websites to provide local information ...". (see screen below 👇)

STEP 3: Diagnosis and Feedback

Next, I recommend opening the section "Diagnostics and reviews" and check if the following options are turned off:

  • "Send keyboard and handwriting data to Microsoft ...";
  • "Let Microsoft offer you a personalized experience based on ..." (see example below 👇).

Diagnostics and reviews

STEP 4: Activity Log

To disable the transfer of the log with your various actions on the PC, you need to open the section "Action log" and uncheck two checkboxes:

  • "Let Windows collect my actions from this computer";
  • "Allow Windows to sync my actions from this computer to the cloud" (see screenshot below 👇).

STEP 5: location, camera, microphone

About the location ...

On the one hand, this is tracking, the system knows where you are. On the other hand, it is quite convenient, when entering the maps, you can immediately see the area where you are.

And even going to online stores - they automatically detect your city and offer convenient delivery options (less manual red tape). So, shutdown is in your opinion ...

My recommendation is to leave it enabled in only a few applications (for example, the browser you use to work with maps).

Location service

About microphone

In general, everything is the same as about the location. If you do not use a computer for conversations, you can safely disable it (or allow it only for certain applications).

Microphone

About the camera

Likewise. It is recommended to disable all applications that you do not use (and in which you do not need a camera, of course).

STEP 6: disable telemetry

The easiest way to do this is to disable the telemetry service. To do this, first open the list of services, I will give below a universal method:

  • use a combination of buttons Win + R to bring up a window "Run" ;
  • then enter the command services.msc and click OK.

How to open services - services.msc

In the window that appears with a list of services, find Connected User Functionality and Telemetry (usually located almost at the very bottom of the list), and open it.

Service responsible for telemetry (clickable)

Next, switch the startup type to the mode "Disabled" , press the button "Stop" , and save the changed parameters.

How to disable a service

Then restart your computer. Telemetry must be disabled ...

PS

👉 By the way!

You can also be "watched" through your laptop / PC's webcam. 👉 I recommend reading it!

In general, if you touch on the topic of surveillance, then pay attention to your smartphone (it knows where you are, what's next, what requests you entered, etc.).

Even an ordinary TV, and that is now equipped with a microphone, a webcam and God knows what else (and the protection of the same webcam - there is "no").

PS 2

After updating the system - some settings and parameters may "fly off" ... Noted not only by me ...

A different point of view - welcome in the comments!

That's all, good luck!
