How to set the maximum frame rate (FPS) in NVIDIA and AMD settings (limiting FPS)

Good time!

More recently, options for limiting the maximum frame rate (FPS) have appeared in the settings of video drivers from NVIDIA and AMD. And I must tell you that this option can be very helpful, eg:

  1. by limiting FPS - you can reduce the load on the video card and CPU, and therefore reduce their heating, noise from the cooler, etc. (and this will increase their durability);
  2. it is possible to correct image distortion (it may appear in some games, especially old ones. Vertical sync - does not always help to solve this issue);
  3. if you are playing on a laptop, then such an artificial limitation will help save battery power (which means the device will work longer).

In general, it is evident that the max. the limit in some cases is not only useful, but even necessary! Below is the easiest way to set this FPS limit.

By the way, I have a few more articles related to FPS on my blog. I think you can also learn something from them. useful! 👇

nVidia

And so, first you need to right-click on any free space on the desktop - and in the menu that appears, select the option "NVIDIA Control Panel" ... See screenshot below.

If you do not have a link to the NVIDIA Driver Control Panel - most likely you do not have a video driver installed, see the link below.

There is no Intel HD, nVidia, or AMD Radeon video driver icon in the tray next to the clock and on the desktop. What to do ->

Next, you need to go to the section "Manage 3D Settings" , select a section "Software settings" and indicate the desired game (in which we will set the required number of FPS).

After, in the list of settings you need to find the line "Max Frame Rate" - switch this parameter to "On" mode and specify number of FPS... In my example, 70 FPS is set (👇).

By the way, if you have an English version of the video driver, you need to open the section "Manage 3D settings" (the rest is the same ...).

AMD

With AMD video cards, everything is somewhat more complicated ... (many different versions of drivers with different interface and configuration settings). I will consider one of the most popular versions ...

And so, first you need to open AMD settings and go to the section "Games" . 👇

Open AMD Radeon Settings

Games - AMD settings

Then open the section "global settings" (this means that the entered settings will apply to all launched games and software).

Next, you need to find a parameter such as "Frame rate control" and move the slider in the direction you want. In my example, the rate is set to 40 frames / sec.

Frame rate control - 40 frames per second.

Actually, it remains to save the settings and check how the video card will behave in games ... 👌

By the way, the new March update for Adrenalin drivers has a slightly different interface: here you need to go to the section "Video card" and enable the option "Radeon Chill" (example below 👇).

That's it for now. Add-ons on the topic are always welcome!

Happy games!
