Download NET Framework 3.5, 4.7, 4.8 (x64) and other versions (as well as what to do with errors in games due to NET Framework)

Good day.

It is not uncommon for me to encounter various errors related to a package. Microsoft .NET Framework (most often in games, various editors, drawing programs, take at least the same AutoCAD ...). 👀

In all such problems, for a start, it would be nice to know which version NET Framework is required by the application, see if it is in Windows, and if it is not - download / update / install .

It would seem nothing complicated, but there are nuances. They will be discussed in the article ... 👌

For reference.

In general, NET Framework is a special package that is designed to combine various software written in different programming languages (so that everything works).

In theory, you can compare it with codecs. Naturally, if you do not have the required version on your computer (or it has been damaged), then the program will not start.

And now, closer to the point, I will analyze the most basic ...

Troubleshooting Microsoft .NET Framework Issues

How can I find out what versions of the NET Framework are installed?

Method number 1

You need to open 👉 the Windows Control Panel in the following path: Programs \ Programs and Features (note: add and remove programs).

Next, look at the list of installed programs: are there any among them that start with ".NET ...". If not listed, open Components Windows (see screenshots below 👇).

Another way to open components is to click Win + R, and use the command optionalfeatures

Programs and Features

Important!

Note that in Windows 8 and 10, Microsoft NET Framework is not listed in the list of installed programs (to see the versions, you need to open the link in the menu on the left "View installed updates" ).

In Windows 10, it is not possible to uninstall NET Framework by standard means, however, as a rule, it is possible to install the latest version of this package (update it).

Method number 2

There is a special utility for viewing and solving problems with NET Framework ".NET Version Detector"(available at the link: 👉 //www.asoft.be).

It doesn't require installation. After launch, it will show a list of all installed versions, and will also lead download links (if suddenly something does not appear, you can download and install).

Is it possible not to update this package, because I have not updated it before and everything worked?

Most users do not even remember about it (for the time being ...). The fact is that in new versions of Windows it is already included in the kit (preinstalled in the system) and there is no need to separately download or update something.

Besides, NET Framework are often included in the installers of popular games, and when they are installed, this package is also updated. Those. all actions are invisible to the user ...

but, it may be that a new program or game requires a new packageNET Framework (or vice versa, you want to run something old, which will require a specific version of this package).

And then everything is simple: if the required version of NET Framework is not available, then at startup you will see an error (as in the example below 👇).

By the way, some of the errors may be related to the "broken" version of the NET Framework (which is why it is sometimes recommended to update this software).

Links to download the required versions (manual installation)

Firstly, I want to advise right away: you do not need to download all versions in a row and try to reinstall each (a little below I will note which versions are recommended for different OS).

Secondly, it is recommended to download the NET Framework only from the official Microsoft website (so to speak, not a modified installer). Moreover, if you have already encountered errors due to the lack of this package ...

👉 Method number 1. A little higher (👆) in the article, I recommended you use the utility ".NET Version Detector" - it will not only show you what versions of the package you have installed on the system, but will also provide download links for each version.

*

👉 Method number 2. Below are links to the official Microsoft website:

  • Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 (for Windows XP)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1 (includes .NET 2.0, 3.0; for Windows XP, Vista);
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 (for Windows XP, Vista and 7)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 (x86 / x64, for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1);
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6.2 (x86 / x64, for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10)
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.7.1 (x86 / x64, for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10).
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 (x64, offline installer! BTW, this is a highly compatible update for .NET Framework 4, 4.5, 4.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1 and 4.7.2).

*

It is important to note that version 4 (say) updates the previous version of the packageNET Framework, therefore, for new Windows 8, 10 operating systems, only the latest 4 versions are required to be installed (in 99.9% of cases).

Updating the NET Framework to the latest version (automatically!) 👌

In this post, I can't help but recommend 👉 Driver Booster - even if you don't need to update your drivers, try it anyway!

The point is that she automatically identifies missing components in the system that may affect games (NET Framework, Visual C ++ and other packages), and installs them. Agree, it's convenient!

Please note that the program downloads and installs everything necessary for games (NET Framework, Visual C ++ and other packages) automatically!

Can I uninstall NET Framework (or use a different version)? What does that require?

In most cases, you do not need to remove the package - you just need to use a different version. This can be done in the tab "Windows Components" (which can be opened in the Windows Control Panel - just above the article shows you where to find this).

Actually, you need to put a "tick" next to the package that you want to use and agree to the changes. Windows OS may need to download the missing files - it does it itself in auto-mode (it just needs an Internet connection).

Enabling NET Framework 4.7

In those cases, when you seem to have the required version of the NET Framework installed, but the game (program) still throws errors and "swears" - you can try to remove the package and install it again.

In some cases, the package can be removed by opening the list of installed programs ( Control Panel \ Programs \ Programs and Features ).

Uninstallation occurs in the same way as any other program (see the screen below 👇).

Programs and components - uninstall .NET as a normal program

In some cases, a special utility may be required: NET Framework Cleanup Tool (link to the blog of its developer Microsoft).

The utility does not need to be installed. By the way, you need to run it on behalf of the administrator (note: that is, right-click on the executable file and select "run as administrator" in the context menu).

Actually, then you will need to select the version of NET Framework that you want to uninstall and click the button "Cleanup Now" (clear now). See screenshot below. 👇

That, in fact, is all for today.

Add-ons are welcome ...

Success to everyone!
