How to compare the performance of video cards. Assessing the performance of your video card

Good day!

Quite often, when upgrading a computer (or in general when buying a new PC / laptop), the question arises of choosing a video card, or rather its performance evaluation. After all, not always the one that is more expensive turns out to be more productive (now everything is confused: models purchased at the old dollar rate - one price tag, in a new way - another ...)!

In this article I will give several sites (methods *) that will help you compare the performance of different video cards (which means the choice of hardware will be made easier, especially for inexperienced users, of whom the majority).

And in general, sometimes prices for specific video cards are 2 times higher than for others, and their performance (at best) is 5-10% higher (which is often almost imperceptible). Does it make sense to overpay?

And so, let's consider this topic in more detail ... 👌

Comparison of graphics cards performance

Which of the 2 video cards is more productive

Option 1

Website: //technical.city/ru/video/HD-Graphics-620-protiv-Radeon-520

Website technical.city Russian-language, designed to compare the performance of video cards and processors. The resource is quite popular, it contains almost all models of the sold CPU and GPU (processors and video cards). True, only 2 models of video cards or CPUs can be compared on it at the same time, but even this is more than enough!

And so, following the link above, just specify the 2 video cards that you want to compare (see the screenshot below).

Specifying Card Models

Further, we will have a long list with different technical characteristics of each of the cards, test results in various games (how many FPS and at what resolution) and programs, and final conclusions.

For example, in my comparison, the site gave preference to the GeForce MX150 card, because it is more productive in games and synthetic tests. By the way, in the very last paragraph of the comparison, the resource concludes this way: "based on tests, it is recommended to choose this and that" ...

Option 2

Website: //www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php

In my opinion the site videocardbenchmark.net one of the best in terms of comparing any piece of hardware. Yes, his design is not the most advanced, but the base includes (in my opinion) even those cards that, in principle, cannot be found ...

Judge for yourself:

  1. almost all video cards are presented, starting from 2000 (there are also more rare models). So, even if you have a very old computer, which is 10-15 years old, here you can find your video card;
  2. you can compare 3 video cards at once! (which is very convenient);
  3. despite the English language, the site interface is very captivating with its simplicity and conciseness;
  4. regular website updates - new models of maps, tests, etc. are added almost every day ...

And so, going to the resource page for comparison, find the required video card model through the search, and click on the button "Compare" ... See screenshot below.

Click the Compare button (i.e. add to the comparison sheet)

Then, in the same way, find and add 1-2 more video cards to the list. In the top menu you will have an icon with "scales" , on which the number of the added card models will be lit. Just click on this icon with LMB (left mouse button).

Click on the menu with weights

The results are presented in a convenient table, where various technical characteristics of the cards will be shown. The bottom line of the table shows the test results (highlighted in orange), according to which you can evaluate the most productive model. 👇

Option 3

Site: //gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-HD-6970M-vs-Intel-HD-620-Mobile-Kaby-Lake/m8552vsm153579

This site also greatly impresses me (probably because of its very beautiful and convenient design). By clicking on the link above, you just need to choose two video cards - as soon as you do this, the service will immediately give you results for various tests (moreover, there are final conclusions on performance, on the screen below the AMD HD 6970 card is about 70% more productive than the IntelHD 620) .

We look at the effective speed

What are the advantages of this service:

  • a huge database of tests for a wide variety of video cards;
  • you can compare hard drives, solid state drives, processors, RAM;
  • excellent design and user-friendly interface.

How to evaluate your graphics card

👉 Note: the method is useful when your video card is not on any sites (or the results given there are not representative and do not contain the necessary data).

In addition, such a test can help identify various problems with the video card, for example, is everything in order with the cooling system ...

To conduct such a test, you can use the utilities from the sites that I recommended above, or you can use another one - FurMark (it has its own and very solid advantages!).

FurMark

Official site: //geeks3d.com/furmark/

One of the best utilities for testing a video card (it will help evaluate both the stability of the card and its performance). FurMark is capable of conducting stress tests (the most stringent tests) designed to identify all adapter problems, assess its stability and reliability.

After the test, you can find out the score of your card, and see how much it lags behind other models. By the way, in some shops when selling video cards - they give the test results from this utility!

👉 How to test in FurMark:

1) Download, install and run the utility (the process is standard, so I don't consider the issue in detail).

2) Close all games, torrents, video editors, image editors, and in general, any resource-intensive programs.

3) Run FurMark and select one of the tests:

  • GPU Stress Test - The most rigorous stress test of your graphics card. Designed to identify card problems;
  • Preset 2160 (720), etc. - test for several minutes to determine the performance of your card. This is what I launched in the example below.

FurMark - test with preset 720

4) Before starting the test, the program always warns that the test can cause a heavy load on the PC and cause the system to reboot. Therefore, before the test, save all open documents (notebooks, Word, browsers). Press the button to get started "GO" .

a warning

5) Next, a "donut" will appear on the whole screen, which will spin in different directions. On the left you will observe the number of FPS, the model of the video card, the screen resolution during the test.

The test is in progress - a bagel is running ...

6) After testing, you will see a small window with all the parameters and test results. Click the button "Submit" to submit the results to the utility's site and view them in a more visual way.

7) The final plate looks like this (I bring a test of my video card).
