S-Mode in Windows 10: How to turn it off (or why I can't install programs on a new computer with S Mode)

Hello!

Not so long ago, a friend of mine bought a laptop and was faced with the fact that the Windows 10 system did not allow installing any programs, including the new Chrome browser (besides, the OS was in English - this made it even more chic 👀).

A little later it turned out that the special S-mode (S Mode) was "to blame" for this, in which (most likely) many new devices with preinstalled Windows 10 will soon be running. Everything would be fine, but this mode is too aimed at device security and not allows literally "NOTHING"!

Actually, below I will present some of the features of this S-mode, as well as how you can exit from it to the normal state of the system (this is free and legal ✌).

S-mode in Windows 10

Features of the

Below I will briefly summarize the most important points (of course, this is only the main thing that is most interesting to the main circle of users). More details can be found here.

By the way, to clarify whether you have S mode enabled, just go to the system properties (the Win + Pause Break key combination).

System Information / Notebook by ASUS

Minuses

1) Programs

Windows 10 S lets you download and install programs only from the official Store. Of course, this imposes serious restrictions!

2) Drivers

You will have to use only those drivers that the OS itself will select and install. Everything would be fine, but these "standard" drivers often do not have all the functions that the "native" ones provide.

3) Antivirus

All protection falls on the shoulders of Windows Defender. I think there is no point in repeating its level of security? 😢

4) Search engines

There is no way to change Microsoft Edge browser and Bing search engine. This can seriously impose restrictions on the usability of the device (no, of course, go to Google services - nothing prevents, but for some reason, setting it as the default search engine does not work ...).

pros

1) Speed of work

Due to various restrictions, it should be noted that the OS in this mode works much faster (especially loading).

2) Compatibility

There are practically no various errors, failures, etc. Of course, if the drivers are only standard (with digital signatures) and applications from the Store (tested many times), then this is not surprising ...

3) Relative safety

It is provided due to the fact that it is forbidden to install software not from the Store (note: just as statistics show, almost half of the cases of PC infection with viruses occurs due to the installation of "gray" software).

How to turn off S-mode in Windows 10 Home

Note! After exiting this mode - subsequently, you will not be able to enter it again!

1) First, open the Windows settings (you can either through START, or using the Win + i combination).

Parameters

2) Next, you need to go to the section "Update and Security" .

Update and Security

3) In subsection "Activation" you will see the version of your OS (Home, Pro, for example) and you can find a link to the "Store" store - it is with the help of it that the shutdown occurs (see the subsection "Switch to Windows 10 Home" / "Switch to Windows 10 Home").

Note! Of course, if you have Windows 10 Pro S-mode, then you will switch to Pro version ...

Activation

4) Next, just click the button "GET" (receive).

(Note: "Switch out of S mode" - translates how to exit S-mode)

Exit S mode

5) Actually, that's all. Disabling S mode takes no more than 1 minute. Further, by going into the properties of the system (Win + Pause Break), you will see that the OS version has been changed (everything has become as usual 👌).

Mission accomplished

6) Yes, by the way, now you can start installing any applications (just as you did earlier).
