How to view maps from a satellite (we see streets, houses, sights with real eyes in 3D)

Good time everyone!

Even an ordinary smartphone today (let alone a PC) allows you not only to make calls and carry on correspondence, but also act as a map (as a guidebook can show not only the route, but also give you the opportunity to find yourself in the place where you need it).

Moreover, you can view not only maps with a top view, but also see what a street or house looks like through the eyes of a real person (that is, as if you yourself would find yourself on this street and walk along it!). Agree, this is very convenient if you go to an unfamiliar part of the city or just haven't seen your father's house for a long time 😢.

Below I will present some of the most convenient services with such maps. Note that all the services below are available only online (if you do not have an Internet connection, you will not be able to view the maps).

Services for viewing satellite maps

Instant Street View

Website: //www.instantstreetview.com/

I installed this service first, because it does not require registration, it loads quickly both when working from a PC and from a phone. After going to the site, you can immediately indicate the city and street you are looking for (the service will automatically prompt several options at the input stage!).

Note: by the way, I would recommend to immediately switch the view mode to "Satellite" and turn on street view. See the arrows in the screenshot below.

Further, in the left corner of the screen, you can observe a small map with a top view (you can quickly find a specific address on it), and on the main one, the street will be displayed as if you yourself are on it (in 3D, see the photo below). The mode allows you to navigate very quickly in any unfamiliar city / street.

There is also a more familiar viewing option - a top view. Please note that if geolocation is enabled and working on your smartphone, you can see where you are now on a satellite image (find out the coordinates).

Note: the Instant Street View service uses Google Maps and a number of other similar services to present the results (i.e. acts as an aggregator and collector).

Google maps

Website: //www.google.com/maps/

The Google Maps service (maps from Google) is one of the most famous and popular in the world. Many other aggregators use their snapshots to present their results.

As for the representation of our country, in Google Maps you can view a map of almost any city (perhaps the exception here will be small regional centers, villages).

Satellite view of the earth (Google Maps)

Moreover, Google "knows" the sights of all major cities (see the screen below), will prompt you with a choice of hotels, cafes, and plot a route how to get to this or that place. Very convenient!

Aerial view (Volgograd city)

Well, one should not mention 3D panoramic images - they allow you to view only the most famous sights and main streets of the city. If your house is located somewhere near a large avenue or highway (for example), you can probably find it too ...

3D sightseeing

Zoom earth

Website: //zoom.earth/

This service is unique in its kind and very interesting. The fact is that images of the Earth come to it from several satellites (according to the description, NASA supplies images from the VIIRS, Terra and Aqua satellites).

I cannot but note that the Zoom Earth service contains not only current images, but also those taken 3-5 and more years ago. This allows you to compare how the terrain has changed over the past years.

Zoom Earth allows you to search for cities, streets, displays coordinates (latitude, longitude), allows you to change the scale (from viewing the entire planet - to viewing a specific house).

Yandex Maps

Website: //yandex.ru/maps/

These are maps from the most famous Russian search engine. Allows you to find any street and building in any Russian city with a 2-click mouse. Also, maps allow you to build the nearest route from point A to point B, turn on a panoramic view of the street, find out where which shops, cafes, gas stations, etc. In general, a whole great reference ...

Yandex Maps - Panorama View

Note: if you have not prohibited Yandex from determining your geolocation, the service will automatically determine your current location and highlight it on the map.

Panoramic view (Yandex maps)

Map quest

Website: //www.mapquest.com/

Free American service that provides access to satellite maps for everyone. The service competes with Google Maps in terms of granularity (at least in the US). I also note that the service regularly updates maps, improves detail, and improves the quality of images.

To switch the map to satellite images, pay attention to the panel on the right. It not only allows you to change the scale, but also to print the map, build a route, change the view, etc.

Rand mc nally

Website: //maps.randmcnally.com

On the one hand, a fairly simple service, on the other hand, with the help of it I was able to view detailed pictures of even small villages in Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. The quality of the pictures is very, very decent, I recommend it to everyone who does not find something in the previous services.

By the way, a very interesting view opens up if you go up to the maximum height (change the scale). The service very colorfully shows not only the map, but also the presence of deserts, forests, seas, etc. (if you have a large and bright monitor, the card is mesmerizing ...).
