No sound volume control in Windows: how to increase / decrease the volume with a "hot" keyboard shortcut

Good time!

Recently, more and more questions began to "slip" to me regarding sound adjustment in Windows 10 (most likely, there is some kind of update or version of the OS, which clearly has a problem with this plan ...).

In general, I must say that the standard volume control in Windows is extremely poorly executed: in order to adjust the volume, you need to open 2-3 more tabs это (this is all the more you realize when you start using alternative software).

Actually, I wanted to propose several alternative regulators in this article. They will not only make it easier to interact with the speaker / headphone volume setting, but also allow you to set up hotkeys for quickly increasing / decreasing the volume. 👌

How can you easily adjust the volume

From the above, it has probably already become clear that we need specials. utilities. The first one I want to dwell on is Volume 2.

👉 Volume 2

This is an alternative volume control (by the way, the name of this utility emphasizes this). After installing it, another "speaker icon" will appear in your tray, which will allow you to quickly configure all audio parameters.

Of course, Volume 2 also has its own alternative volume control (which does not depend on the standard one built into Windows). See screenshot below. 👇

Alternative volume control

By the way, I also can't help but note that Volume 2 allows you to change the default playback device, turn on / off microphones, speakers, headphones, etc. with two clicks of the mouse. An example is below.

Default device

Regarding customization hot keys: in the parameters of the utility there is a special. the section of the same name, in which you can set the desired keyboard shortcuts. In his example below, for:

  • increase the volume - I set the ALT buttons + mouse wheel up;
  • Decrease the volume - ALT + mouse wheel down.

Choosing hotkeys for adjusting the sound

👉 Important!

It is worth noting that the Volume 2 program allows you to put a lot of useful actions on the "hot" keys:

  • adjust the brightness of the screen;
  • turn off the monitor;
  • adjust the sound volume level on an inactive (alternative) device;
  • change channels;
  • put your PC to sleep, hibernation, or turn it off.

In general, the application is very convenient and saves time (all the more important if there are problems with standard adjustment (it is not always the same to reinstall Windows ...)).

👉 There is one more an extremely simple utility for adjusting the volume with a mouse (with an alternative control) - Volumouse (link to the official website of the developer).

Despite the "old-fashioned" design (and the year of release 2004) - the utility functions well in all modern Windows 8/10 operating systems.

All you need to do is download the utility, launch it and you can immediately hold ALT + roll the mouse wheel - the volume will change! A small volume control will appear on the screen. See example below. 👇

ALT + mouse wheel

The program settings are minimal: you can select hot keys, specify the adjustment step, set the default playback device, etc.

Volumouse utility

I think that a couple of the proposed regulators will be more than enough. Just in case, here are a couple of links to typical audio problems below.

Additions on the topic are welcome!

Good luck!
