Replacing torrents: what can be used instead of uTorrent, MediaGet, etc.

Good time everyone!

Not a single uTorrent and MediaGet feed the Internet ✌. Once upon a time, instead of them, they used other programs, loaded files into them, and, moreover, quite successfully and quickly! In addition, it should be noted that these programs are not whimsical and can work even on a local network ...

By the way!

If you were looking for an alternative to uTorrent on this page (i.e. another torrent client), then about it here: //ocomp.info/analogi-utorrent-torrent-klientyi.html

And in this post, I wanted to focus on fundamentally different ways of sharing files (not related to torrents). For many users who began to actively use the Internet after 2006-2007, these methods can be a revelation.

And so, closer to the topic ...

Replace uTorrent, MediaGet

Option 1: StrongDC ++

StrongDC ++

Link to the official. website: //strongdc.sourceforge.net/

This is a program for exchanging files using the Direct Connection protocol (i.e. direct file transfer from one user to another). The whole process can be described as follows: you connect to a hub (server) where you can view and download files of other users. In turn, you can also share a folder or files that others don't have. It's very convenient!

There is a built-in search, chat, the ability to send private messages and much more.

How to use (briefly):

1) Download the software from the official website (link above), install and run. At the first start, you will need to indicate your nickname, e-mail address and give a description (all this can be anything).

General - StrongDC ++

2) If you do not have any invitation to a specific server (☝), then just click on the button for viewing public hubs (see the screenshot below).

Public hubs

3) Next, several dozen servers will appear in front of you: they differ in subject matter, number of users, shared information, etc. To connect to one of them - just select it and double-click LMB (* note: left mouse button).

Note: you can connect to multiple servers at once!

Double LMB-click on the desired hub

4) If everything went well, you will see a chat window and a list of users (see screenshot below).

What the program will look like when you connect successfully

5) To start searching and downloading something: click on the "Magnifier" icon, enter your request in the search bar - then, a few seconds after it has been processed, you will see a list of files. Right-clicking on any of them - you can start downloading ...

Upload and search files

6) If the search doesn't find anything:

  • or you have entered something very rare, and this, in principle, is not shared by anyone on the server;
  • or go to the program settings, and in the tab "Connection Settings" set the option "Firewall, passive" (the program will run somewhat slower, but more stable).

If StronDC ++ is not searched ...

By the way, if the file download does not start in any way: the hub may be blocked for the minimum amount of shared files (usually 20-30 GB). Just in the program settings in the "Sharing" tab - make some of your files available for downloading by other users in StrongDC ++ ...

Option 2: eMule

eMule

Website: //www.emule-project.net/home/perl/general.cgi?l=34

Server List (see Server List tab): //www.emule-security.org/

Old enough client for peer-to-peer file sharing worldwide. In our country, it is already somewhat forgotten, but abroad, someone else is actively used ...

How to use (briefly):

1) After installing the program, go to the site with a list of servers (given just above) and add them to the program - this is done automatically by clicking on the link in the browser ...

2) Then go to eMule and in the tab "Servers" connect to one of them.

Server connection / eMule

3) In the tab "Search" make a request and select files to upload. Please note that there are a lot of files in eMule: hundreds of millions (but most of them are still in English)!

Find files - eMule

4) The progress of downloading files can be viewed in the tab "Transfers" .

Download list

In general, despite the fact that "Donkey" is already pretty outdated - everything works and it allows you to find many files. The program is especially useful when you need files in English, Italian, German and other languages.

Option 3: FTP servers

FTP server - This is a computer (or several), which usually stores a large number of files, and to which you can connect via FTP. This protocol is one of the oldest (appeared even before HTTP), and is still actively used to exchange files between PCs on local networks and the Internet.

In general, if you go to the point: there are thousands of all kinds of FTP servers on the network, with different content: software, books, etc. To find them, it is enough to type in any of the search engines "list of FTP servers ..." .

How to use: yes, in general, simple. If the server is open, as a rule, it is enough to follow the link (for example, ftp://mirror.yandex.ru/) and you will immediately see all files and folders presented on the server in the browser window.

What does an FTP server open in a browser look like?

Having selected the desired file, it will automatically start downloading ...

Download directly from the browser

In general, it is more convenient to work with FTP servers from underFileZilla (this is the name of the special program).

On this I will round off ...

All the best!
