How to make a line [Word]

Good time everyone!

When creating and formatting documents in Word, you often have to draw and build various shapes ... One of the simplest and most frequently used elements is a straight line (many novice users quite often ask how to insert such a line into a document).

In the article I will show several options for resolving the issue. I think at least one of them should suit you ...

Ways to create a line in Word

The article material is relevant for Word 2019, 2016, 2013

1) Method number 1: through the insertion of elements

Perhaps one of the most convenient and functional ways, because a straight line can be placed as you like: vertically, horizontally, at an angle.

To insert such a line - just go to the "Insert" section, and in the "Shapes" tab, select the desired element (instead of a straight line, you can select arrows, wavy elements, triangles, rectangles, etc. shapes, see the screenshot below).

Then you just have to indicate the beginning and end of the line with the LMB (left mouse button). An example of such a line is shown below (the thickness can be "adjusted" by double-clicking on it).

2) Method number 2: if you just need to underline a word

Many users need a straight line to underline a word or a specific part of the text. There is a fairly convenient way to do this: just select the desired part of the text and click on the "H" icon (or press the Win + U combination).

An example of how it looks is rearranged in the screenshot below (there is a straight line below the text).

3) Method number 3: using cell borders

In Word'e section "Home" there is such a tab as "Borders". If you want to draw a straight line above the text, under it, to the right or to the left of it, then this tool is quite convenient.

An example of what it looks like is shown in the screenshot below.

4) Method number 4: using the "dash" on the keyboard

Well, the most obvious way is to use the Hyphen key on your keyboard. If you hold down the "Shift" key and then click on the "Hyphen" several times, then you will get an even straight line (see screenshots below).

Below on the screen there are 2 lines: one is made with the "Shift" key pressed, the other - without.
