How to disable (enable) tablet mode (Windows 10)

All health!

Six months ago I had to "suffer" with one device 2 in 1, something in between a laptop and a tablet. When the lid was opened more than 180 degrees, the keyboard was automatically turned off and it was possible to work with the touch screen.

Everything would be fine, but with this use, Windows should activate tablet mode and then get out of it. But this (as you understand) did not happen ... Of course, I was asked to simply turn off this mode, tk. in this form, the owner does not use the device.

Actually, I saved the note in drafts and only today I got around to it. And so ... 👌

Note!

1) Depending on the type of your device - the tablet mode may "not exist" in the options of your OS (ie it cannot be enabled / disabled through the OS parameters). If you are faced with this - see method 3.

2) The difference between working in tablet mode and normal mode: programs are displayed in full screen mode by default; the touch keyboard pops up automatically when you touch the screen; more "concise / lightweight" interface of Windows 10.

Tablet mode: setting

Method 1

This is the easiest and fastest option. It is necessary:

  1. press a combination of buttons Win + A (or click on the notification icon in the tray, next to the clock);
  2. in the side menu that appears, click on the rectangle / tile "Tablet mode" (note: if it is highlighted in blue, then this mode is enabled!). 👇

Win + A - side menu

Note: this "feature" may not be available on all devices! See the methods below.

Method 2

This option is more versatile and can be used on any * device with Windows 10 (although, usually, if you do not have a touch screen, the tablet mode will not automatically turn on).

And so, first we open Windows options : either through the START menu, or by clicking on the combination Win + i... After we go to the section "System" . 👇

System - Windows Settings

Next, you need to open the tab "The tablet" and set the necessary, for example, indicate the option "Do not switch to tablet mode" (depending on what you need 👌).

By the way, I also recommend to go to add. parameters.

In advanced settings, you can configure the display of icons and the taskbar (as well as forcible on / off. Tablet mode).

Method 3

This method is universal and works even if it was not possible to configure the mode through the system parameters.

First, we need to 👉 open the registry editor. To do this, just press Win + R, in the window that appears "Run" use commandregedit.

Then you need to go to the branch below:

Computer \ HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ ImmersiveShell

This thread has a parameter "TabletMode" ... If we translate its value to "1" - we will turn on the tablet mode (if it is "0" - turn it off).

Important: after changing the parameters in the registry (for them to take effect) - you need to restart your computer!

By the way, in the same section of the system registry (👆) there is another parameter "SignInMode" - is responsible for which mode your device will choose on its own:

  • if the value is "0" - auto-selection of the appropriate mode for the device;
  • if the value is "1", the desktop mode is activated (classic version);
  • if the value is "2" - tablet mode is activated.

Comments on the topic are welcome!

That's it for now. Good luck!
