VPN for Chrome, Yandex Browser and Opera: how to open an inaccessible site

Good time everyone!

VPN is a virtual private network, connecting to which, you get two indisputable advantages:

  1. The IP address is changed to a different one, moreover, you can select the IP of a specific country (i.e. neither any sites nor other users will be able to block your access to a certain resource, and any inaccessible site from your country can be opened using VPN ... 👍);
  2. Internet connection is encrypted - i.e. no one knows what sites you visit (besides, your logins and passwords are much more secure).

So, to enable VPN in browsers, as a rule, you either need to install a special. extension (and pre-configure it), or change a number of parameters in the program settings.

Actually, in today's post I will give the most simple and working examples of using a VPN in such popular browsers as Chrome, Opera and Yandex browser.

So...

Note: relatively recently, I had a blog post about what a VPN is and why you need it (the most simple explanation for beginners 👌 ).

Using VPN by example

Chrome

The Chrome browser is good first of all because there are thousands of various extensions for it, with which you can add new functions to it. Working with VPN is no exception ...

1) First you need to open the Chrome Web Store. This can be done:

  • or by going to the following web page: //chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions?hl=en
  • or by clicking on the "three dots" in the corner of the screen and opening the tab "Additional Tools / Extensions" , see screenshots below.

2) Next, you need to insert the treasured three letters "VPN" into the search line and dozens of various extensions will appear in front of you. I recommend first of all to pay attention to "ZenMate VPN" (provided free of charge, works quickly and has tens of thousands of positive reviews).

Install a new extension

Note.

VPNs from friGate Light, Touch VPN, Hola, TunnelBear, Hotspot Shield, etc. are also not bad.

3) After you press the button "install" - the extension will ask you to enter your e-mail and password (thanks to this, ZenMate will give you a free 7-day very fast VPN, which is provided only on paid plans).

4) Actually, that's all!

On the top bar of your browser you will see a "green" shield, signaling that the extension is working and your connection is encrypted! By the way, a special is built into the extension. a switch that allows you to quickly and conveniently turn it off when a VPN is not required ...

VPN works!

Yandex browser

Fast-paced browser. Lately, so many things have been added to it ... probably, that's why it overtook Opera and Firefox in popularity. 👌

And so, closer to the topic ... Firstly, I recommend paying attention to the mode turbo... This option is already initially built into the browser and is designed to speed up the loading of slow (or inaccessible) sites. In some cases, what is not a VPN replacement? 😊

Turn on turbo

Secondly, there are hundreds of extensions for Yandex browser (by the way, it supports extensions for Opera). To install these, click on the "three stripes" in the right corner of the screen, and go to the menu "Add-ons" ... See screenshot below.

Add-ons (Yandex browser)

Next, scroll down the page to the very bottom of it and open extension directory .

Extension catalog

By entering the query into the search bar "VPN" (without quotes) you will see a dozen two or three extensions of this category. Quite good (in my opinion): ZenMate, Hola, Avira, DotVPNVirtual Shield.

Extensions

By selecting and opening one of the extensions, you can add it to the Yandex browser with one click of the mouse ...

Add to Yandex browser

Actually, after installation, an icon in the form of a shield will appear on the top panel of the browser (if you have chosen, like me, ZenMate). By clicking on this "shield", you can customize the VPN operation in detail ...

Opera

One of the few browsers in which a lot of useful modules are initially built: VPN, torrent client, RSS reader, currency converter, news feed, energy saver (for laptops), ad blocker, etc.

As for VPN: Opera is free, easy to turn on and very fast (comparable to many paid counterparts). In general, if you do not use VPN so often, then most likely the standard Opera function can be enough for you more than ... 👍

Now how to enable VPN

1) Go to browser settings: "Menu / Settings" (you can use the Alt + P combination).

Opera settings

2) Next on the left open the tab "Advanced / Security" and move the slider next to VPN to On.

Enable VPN

3) If the VPN started working, then in the address bar of the browser you will see the corresponding icon ... Convenient and fast ?!

PS

1) Working through VPN slows down the opening of web pages a little. If the VPN is fast enough, then these delays are almost imperceptible, and you can work safely. However, with some free extensions and services, you can lose your patience ... 😠

In this case, try replacing the extension with something else ...

2) Do not install two or more VPN related extensions at the same time! This can cause inaccessibility of a number of services and websites, glitches, errors.

3) If you use public Wi-Fi (in parks, cafes, etc.) - it is highly recommended to work there only from under a VPN (otherwise you risk "losing" some of your passwords ...).

Recommendation!
