How to record a conversation or video conference in Skype, Zoom, and other applications

User question

Hello.

Help to record a Skype videoconference. The built-in option allows you to start recording only when a conversation is in progress, and all preparations remain invisible.

I need to start recording much earlier ...

Best regards, Antonina, Samara.

Hello.

I did not quite understand what kind of "preparations" were being discussed (perhaps it is not worth writing down 😊) ...

In the note I will give three of the most relevant ways to solve your problem, and which one to choose and "spin" to perfection is up to you ...

👉 Important!

When you start recording a conversation in any of the applications, you must inform your interlocutor about this (or all those who in one way or another participate in the conference)!

This is not my whim! The inviolability of private life, personal and family secrets (etc., etc.) - has not been canceled!

Through the standard function

And so ... This is the easiest and fastest way, because does not require additional installation. software and is fully compatible with a specific application (i.e. errors and freezes are minimized during the recording process).

Let's say in Skype to record a conversation (an example of a modern version for Windows 10 👇) - you need to click on the "three dots" in the corner of the screen and click on the option "start recording" ... A notification will appear in the upper left corner (by the way, for all conference participants, see item 3).

Note: Skype records video in MP4 format to the cloud and does not load participants' PCs (and no space on the HDD is required!).

Upon completion of the conversation (recording) - in the chat you will see a window with a "video", by clicking on which RMB - you can download and save it to your disk. Conveniently?! 👌

Concerning Zoom - then it also implements conference recording, see the bottom panel (or you can use a combination of buttons Alt + R).

In the upper corner (like Skype), a notification about the recording will appear. You can also stop or pause it there.

Using a third party application

If you need to record not only what is happening directly in the Skype window (for example), but also in other programs, and in general on the Windows desktop, then a very good solution can be full-screen recording using special. applications (i.e. everything that is displayed on the screen and takes place on the PC).

There are a lot of programs for solving this problem now, but for beginners I would recommend 👉 "Screen camera" (link to the official site). It is very easy to learn (see the screen below), and allows you to simultaneously record video and sound (including a microphone).

In addition, upon completion of the recording, you will have a mini-editor that will allow you to crop something and save the resulting video to your hard drive.

In general, I recommend to meet you! 👌

Note: do not pay attention to the quality of the video on my screen below - I'm special. compressed and filtered to not show conference participants.

Using third-party equipment

Well, and the third option: use a video camera, setting it on a tripod near your workplace (you can also use a phone if you have a pretty good camera on it).

So it will be possible to write down any "preparations" before the conference, show something on your fingers, draw something on a piece of "paper", and so on. All this will be visible (if the quality of your camera allows).

Recording on the phone (camera) everything that happens at the desktop

Perhaps the only drawback of this option: you need equipment and some settings (lighting, choice of location and angle of the camera, install the necessary filters, etc. So that everyone can see everything 👌).

PS

As another of the sub-options of the 3rd option (:): you can purchase some kind of HDMI recorder and record with it. Thus, we will save in the video everything that happens on the screen and at the same time not load the CPU (note: on weak machines, there may be brakes during the recording process, and this is how we solve this problem ...).

You can find such recorders at affordable prices in Chinese online stores ...
