No Internet via Wi-Fi on Android [reasons and solution]

Good day!

Problems with the Internet on smartphones and tablets occur just as often as on PCs. It happens that I have connected to Wi-Fi, but the device does not connect to the Google Play Store, the browser does not open the page, and the video does not play. In addition to this, sometimes the Wi-Fi network icon may appear as something gray... And what to do? ..

Actually, in this article I just decided to analyze the most basic reasons due to which the Internet may not work on Android devices. Although, of course, one important detail should be noted here immediately *.

* Note: The Internet may not be available not because of some presets on the smartphone or tablet, but because of problems with the router. Therefore, it should be clearly separated. Before setting up your Android - check if other devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network have Internet:

  • if there is no Internet either, then start first of all with the settings of the router;
  • if the Internet works on other devices, then the tips below will help you!

10 reasons why Wi-Fi Internet does not work on Android

1) Error, system or application glitch

Who would not say what, but on Android there are enough various "glitches" and errors. Therefore, the first thing I would recommend is to simply restart the device (for this, hold the power button for a few seconds, then a window will appear in which there is a restart option (Restart, see the screen below)).

2) Error in the flight mode

Even if you haven't flown anywhere, this option may be enabled (or not work properly). Make sure it is turned off. Alternatively, try turning it on and then turning it off again.

3) Failure of Wi-Fi connection

Try to turn off and turn on the Wi-Fi network again.

Disable / enable Wi-Fi

If this does not help, I also recommend deleting the created Wi-Fi connection, and then reconnecting. See screenshot below.

Delete network

4) Lost time, date, time zone

By the way, when the problem is related to time, the Wi-Fi icon turns gray.

Pay attention not only to the time itself, but also to the date, time zone. Check the time format carefully (24 hour format is recommended), date format. Often due to incorrect entered data - there are network problems ...

5) Blocking the Internet with security applications, antiviruses

If you have antiviruses and other protective utilities installed on your smartphone (tablet), try disabling them for a while. The fact is that many modern antiviruses have a module for checking Wi-Fi operation, and in some cases they can block the normal operation of the network.

6) "Incorrect" operation of the proxy server

In general, this advice is more likely to be exclusive, i.e. check just in case. The fact is that if you did not manually specify the proxy server (on your own), then most likely everything is fine with this parameter.

And so, go to the Wi-Fi settings, click on your network and select the "Change network" option. Next, check the box "Advanced settings" (may be called "Additional", depending on the device) , and check that the "Proxy Server" column is set to "No". If you have something great there - then transfer to "No" and save the settings. Check the network is working.

7) Incorrectly set IP addresses in the connection settings

In the same tab, check that the "DHCP" option is in the "IP Settings" column (example in the screenshot below).

8) Problem with DNS servers (ISPs could "fall off")

A little help! When you open any page in the browser, your device first sends a request to the DNS server, asking it for what IP address such and such a site is located. The DNS server returns the IP address to your device and after that the page is loaded. As a rule, by default, the DNS servers of your provider are always used (and they, as a rule, do not differ in particular stability and speed).

So, if you forcefully change the DNS servers in the connection settings, in some cases it is possible to "return" the Internet to normal. mode. On Android, you can do this if you open the advanced Wi-Fi connection settings, switch the "IP Settings" item to the "custom" mode, and specify 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (DNS from Google) in DNS lines 1, 2, respectively.

9) There are restrictions in the router settings

In this article, I did not want to touch on the settings of the router, but I cannot help but note that modern devices may have specials. settings for restricting access. For example, there may be a "white" list: i.e. only certain devices are allowed to access the Internet.

For example, in Tenda routers, in the "Bandwidth Control" section, you can not only limit the speed of device access to the Internet, but also completely disconnect them from it! See screenshot below.

If you do not know if you have enabled restrictions in the router, you can try to reset its settings and return them to the factory presets. (note: if you do not know how to configure the router after a reset, then it is better to refrain from this operation) .

10) System failure ...

The last thing I can recommend (as a last resort) is to try to do a full reset of the smartphone / tablet settings (the original name is "Hard Reset").

This option is available in Android settings, under "Restore and reset" (restore to factory settings). But keep in mind that a lot of data and parameters will be lost! Therefore, first save anything that may be of value from the device ...

That's all for now. If you have an alternative "treatment" - share in the comments (thanks in advance).

Good luck to all!
