Search by picture from Android phone: looking for similar pictures and the name of what is shown

Good day everyone!

I think that many have more than once come across a situation when you see an animal (plant, insect, etc.) in a photo (picture) and want to know its breed, description and everything that is possible ...

In addition, such a photo can be taken by yourself, being somewhere in nature, since almost all modern smartphones are equipped with cameras. 👌

A similar situation can arise when you just want to find pictures of a certain subject, say, you like nature (waterfall): having just one such image, you can find a whole collection of similar photos. Isn't it great? 😉

In general, image search allows solving such problems (after all, text cannot describe what kind of tree you see, say). How this can be done directly from a smartphone on Android (without using a PC), I will tell you in this article.

So, let's begin...

*

I want to find what is shown in the photo (hit the lens)

Option 1: google gold lens

Google recently has one very interesting application - 👉 "Google Lens" (translated into Russian - a lens or lens). Thanks to it, you can instantly find everything that you can "see" in your phone camera!

For example, they saw a picture with a tree (or even found this tree alive) - they pointed the smartphone's camera and pressed "Search" ... Woo-a-la, the smartphone says that it is "Birch" and offers to see similar pictures! Great ?! 👌

Google Lens - determined what kind of tree, and found similar pictures

Of course, you can search not only for plants, but also for any animals, fish, some goods and things, etc. etc.

Google Lens - determined what kind of fish is on the screen!

On top of that, if you open the tab "Products" - Google Lens will be able to tell you where you can buy and for what price what has got into your lens ...

Option 2: using the Chrome browser

If you have the Chrome browser installed on your phone (tablet) (link to the Play Market), then this application may well be enough for you to solve "our problem". I'll give you a simple example below.

Let's say you saw a photo of a dog on some website and want to know its breed, find similar pictures to this one.

To do this, simply tap and hold on the photo for several times. seconds until the service menu appears: in it, select "Find this image on Google" ... See example below. 👇

We are looking for a dog breed by photo

Next, you will see the search results:

  • you can see other sizes of a similar photo;
  • see similar photos and pictures;
  • read the articles where this photo is found. By the way, in my example, thanks to this, it was easy to determine the breed of the dog - the English Beagle (see the screenshot below 👇).

Option 3: directly on a google search engine

The advantage of this option is that you can search not only for the picture that you got on the Internet, but also make it yourself on the camera (or you can use any image in the memory and on the phone's flash drive).

Search algorithm:

  1. The first thing to do is to open the main Google page, then go to the browser settings and enable the full display of the page (how to do this in Chrome - shown in the screenshot below, see. "Full version" 👇);

    Full version (in browser settings)

  2. then open the image search function (in the upper left menu);

    Pictures

  3. after that you will notice that the icon will be lit in the search bar "camera" - if you click on it, you will be able to search by image (either provide a link to the desired photo, or load it from memory). In my example 👇 - I clicked "Upload file" ;

    Upload photo, select file

  4. then you can choose a picture from the disk or take a photo from the camera. After that, it will automatically search for it: the results of my example are shown below (Google found hundreds of birthday cards ...).

Option 4: using the Yandex search engine

By and large, the search algorithm is similar to the previous version. The only difference is in the search engine (for example, in the Russian-speaking segment, Google does not always find everything, so it makes sense to drive the picture through another search engine).

Search algorithm:

  1. first you need to open a search by pictures. Here is a direct link: //yandex.ru/images/
  2. then click on the text field to enter a request: an option will appear under it "Ask by picture" - it is him that we choose;

    Ask by picture (Yandex)

  3. further, Yandex offers to choose from a search for similar pictures, to recognize the text in a photo, to find a product or a car. In my example, I indicated "similar images" ;
  4. in the next step, you can take a photo from the camera or select a picture (photo) in the phone's memory;

    Find Similar Images

  5. after which the search results will appear before you. It remains to choose to watch only similar images or a list of sites where this photo is found. In general, everything is very convenient and clear. See example below. 👇

Option 5: with the help of special. applications

In some cases, the browser may fail. In addition, if you often look for pictures, it is much more convenient to use specials for this. attachment.

As an additional bonus: special. The software for solving this problem allows you to search in several search engines at once, and then filter the results found (for example, by photo size, color, etc. characteristics).

Search By Image

Google Play Link: //play.google.com/

Search screen in Search By Image

A simple but quite effective application for quickly finding images. Allows you to take both an image from memory as an original, and make it from a camera in real time.

Perhaps there is only one drawback: small advertising windows.

Features:

  • very easy to use;
  • camera support;
  • built-in editor: allows you to crop unnecessary details from the photo that you do not want to look for. You can also rotate the picture 90-270 degrees;
  • support for multiple search engines: Google, TinyEYE and Yandex;
  • when searching on Google, the results can be sorted using a filter.

Photo Sherlock - Search by Image

Google Play Link: //play.google.com/

Search Photo Sherlock

Also a very simple application. After launching it, you will be immediately prompted to take a photo or open it from memory. Next, the application will offer to crop its edges and search (an example is shown in the screenshot above).

By the way, the application allows you to very quickly check the photo in social. networks (or on the same Avito), so as not to run into a fake person (lately, scammers often pretend to be other people) ...

Picture Search - PictPicks

Google Play Link: //play.google.com/

Search results in PictPicks

PictPicks is an application for finding pictures and photos on the web. Moreover, the search can be carried out not only with a specific photo, but also simply on a specific topic (which is also very convenient).

This application differs from the previous ones: the presence of filters that allow you to refine your search criteria.

Features:

  • when searching for images, you can set filters: color, type, time, etc .;
  • the added image for search can be cropped, rotated;
  • there is an opportunity to share the found pictures, set them as wallpaper, add to contacts;
  • the app uses Google to search for images.

That's all for now.

Add-ons are welcome ...

Good luck!
