Hello!
An interesting trend: smartphones have already killed the market for inexpensive cameras / camcorders, MP3 players, some kind of notebooks, key chains, etc., and now it seems that the turn has come to bank cards ...
Judge for yourself, why carry several cards with you (especially if there is a whole stack of them) when you can add them to your phone and use any of them in an instant ?!
Actually, I want to arrange this article in the form of a small step-by-step instruction on adding a classic bank card from Sberbank (since it is the most popular) to an Android phone (for subsequent payment using the Google Pay application, NFC technology).
I think many inexperienced users will find the note very useful (and for those who, before adding, want to see the whole process from A to Z, is there a catch ...).

"Add" the Sberbank card to the phone
STEP 1: check if you have NFC enabled
The first thing to do is to make sure that the phone has an NFC module and whether it works (in principle, it has already begun to be installed even on many budget devices).
For reference!
NFC is special. technology for contactless data transmission (at a distance not exceeding 20 cm). The technology has received widespread use and is used everywhere today. More details on Wikipedia.
The easiest way to do this is to go to the Android settings menu in the tab "Wireless networks" ... If there is an NFC module in the phone, you will see the corresponding section of the settings (see the screen below).
Check if NFC is enabled
Check a couple of points:
- NFC must be enabled (note the slider, see example below);
- the default payment application is Google Pay;
Settings - Pay by touch
You can also check for the presence of NFC using the special. applications (for example, NFC Check, link to the Play Market).

STEP 2: check if the Google Pay app is installed
In general, usually, if the phone supports NFC, then Google Pay is installed by default. But just in case, I provide a link to the Play Market (if you do not have an application, install it).
Google Pay installed
For further work - open Google Pay.
STEP 3: scan the card / enter card data manually
In the tab "Payment" all added maps to the application will be presented (in my case, there are only 1 of them).
To add a new card (and in my example I will add a Sberbank card) - you need to click on the button "+ Payment Methods" (see example below).
Payment methods - add a new card
Next, the phone will offer to scan the card: just point the camera at it and wait 1-2 seconds. You can enter card details manually (number, expiration date, first and last name, in general, everything that is on the front side).
Place the card in the frame
Then you need to enter the CVC code (given on the back of the bank card, see the help below).
Enter CVC code
For reference!
The CVC code can be found on the back of the card (last 3 digits, see example below). Each card has its own unique CVC code. Most often, it is needed to confirm payment for online purchases. For security reasons: never share this code with anyone ...
Where to find CVC code
STEP 4: terms of use and confirmation
If the card details were entered correctly, Google Pay will prompt you to read the terms of use in the next step. (you must click on the "More" button, and then "Accept") .
Add bank card / Google Pay
Further, an SMS with a confirmation code will be sent to the phone linked to the bank card. It will need to be entered into the spec. the field that will appear immediately after you click on the button "Proceed" (see photo below).
SMS confirmation
STEP 5: map added (default map selection)
If the above steps were followed correctly, you will have a new card in the "Payment" section (in Google Pay).If you have several cards added, you can select one of them for payment (which will be used by default).
Map added!
In general, the task is completed.
Another alternative option
If you have the Sberbank-online application installed (a link to it on the Play Market), then the task is greatly simplified ...
After you start and log in to the application, open the properties of your card (just click on it).
Sberbank application
Next select the function "Add to Google Pay" (see screenshot below).
Add to Google Pay
In the next steps, you will only have to agree to the terms and confirm your decision. Then the card will be added. Fast and convenient!
Pay for purchases directly from your phone!
Typical questions
1) How much are these "games" with Google Pay and your phone?
Is free. At the moment, neither Sberbank nor Google Pay take payment for this piece. I don’t know what will happen next ...
2) How do I pay with my smartphone after I have added my card to Google Pay?
Yes, simple. Come to the store, take out your phone at the checkout, unlock the screen and bring it to the terminal (there may be one moment: some stores use old terminals that may not support contactless payment, but there are fewer and fewer of them, and the program seems to be accepted that in a year or two, replace them all).
After that, an inscription will appear that the payment has passed (some smartphones emit an additional sound signal).
3) What smartphones does Google Pay work on?
The smartphone must have an NFC module, and the Android version is at least 4.4. In general, now even many inexpensive smartphones meet these requirements. And, as it seems to me, this topic will only be popularized further ...
4) Is it safe?
In general, yes.
5) Can all cards be added to Google Pay?
Depends on the bank that issued the card. As for Sberbank, you can add almost any classic international MasterCard, Visa cards (except for the cut-down social options).
Addition!
I also recommend that you familiarize yourself with another article of mine on this topic (I give the link below). It is more informational (there are no instructions), but it also contains popular questions and answers to them.
