Games crash on Android, sometimes they don't start at all [what should I do?]

User question

Hello.

Tell me what you can do if some Android games started crashing. I tried to reinstall them - it did not help. Sometimes there is such a thing that the game is not installed at all and does not start (usually this error disappears immediately after the phone is restarted).

Part of the question has been cut out ...

Hello.

I would like to start with the fact that the game can crash either due to software errors or hardware errors (of course, in the article I will only give recommendations on solving software errors).

And one more thing: if your phone behaves like this with all games, in addition, sometimes it reboots spontaneously, just in case, make a backup of your phone book, documents, photos table).

Now let's move on to the practical part ...

Why some games crash and what to do about it

The game is not supported by your device

Perhaps trite, but one of the most common reasons for this behavior of the phone is the lack of support by the game for either your version of Android, or the CPU, or the phone's lineup. Often, developers optimize their game only for specific versions of Android, "forgetting" about everyone else ...

As a rule, the official sites of the game always indicate its requirements for the hardware of the phone. If you have problems with any one specific game, I highly recommend starting with these requirements!

World of Tanks Blitz - tech. game requirements (minimum)

Well, then, knowing those. requirements, just open the phone information and compare them. See screenshot below.

Poor game optimization, incorrect work with the cache

The second thing I would recommend is to try clearing the game cache. Due to incorrect work with the cache, a number of applications sometimes behave extremely unstable (this applies not only to games).

Note. To delete the cache: open the list of applications, find the game you need in it, go to the "Memory" subsection and click the "Clear cache" button (example in the screenshots below).

I would also recommend trying to completely delete the game from the phone's memory and reinstall it (this will help in case of damage to some system files).

One more moment: if you downloaded the game from the Play Market - try using its analogues and download the game from them.

Well, I can't help but note that, unfortunately, almost all new games (which are just about to be released) are poorly optimized (moreover, this applies to both games for phones and PCs). They slow down and crash even on rather powerful smartphones, and it's quite difficult to do something here on your own (unless you leave feedback to the developers 😉).

Freezing of the smartphone (application)

In case of high load on the device, incorrect operation of some software, the game may simply freeze (here you go ...). As a rule, in this case, a general slowdown of the device is noticeable: it seems to execute commands with a delay (sometimes, quite large).

The best way to get your phone up and running is to reboot. To do this, just hold down the power button for a few seconds until a window with a choice of action appears on the screen (example below).

Reboot your smartphone

If the phone does not stop freezing, it may be worth trying to reset it to factory settings (Hard Reset).That is, all files will be deleted from the phone: both damaged and normal (in some cases, it is simply impossible to clean the phone in a different way and bring it into working order). Before this operation - make a backup copy of your data: documents, photos, phone book.

Out of RAM

Another popular problem (especially on budget devices, where a relatively small amount of RAM is installed). As a rule, most users have dozens of applications accumulating on their phones (over time), and many of them (even if not using) can "eat up" some of the RAM ...

And over time, games can begin to crash with errors, even those that worked quite normally before. Therefore, it would not be superfluous to clear the RAM before starting heavy games.

On Android 8.0, to clear the RAM - just click on the "☐" button, then on the trash can icon. As a result, you will see how much memory is cleared and how much is free (screen below).

777 MB memory freed (free 2.88 GB memory) / Android 8.0

On older versions of Android (5.0, for example): you need to open the settings, then the tab "Applications / running" ... In it, you will see all open applications, and how much RAM they take up. Just stop all unnecessary things that you are not currently using.

Out of built-in memory

There can be two points here:

  1. you have so little memory left that the game has nowhere to write its data (for example, to load some levels, events, etc. - games download something from the Internet, and if there is not enough memory, then this will not work, an error will occur ...);
  2. some phones can be extremely unstable if your built-in memory is 90% full or more. Here, of course, a lot depends on the phone model and the software used ...

In both cases, it is recommended to clear the internal memory of the phone (so that at least 20-25% of the space is free). By the way, to find out how much free space is left, just open the tab "Memory" in Android settings.

How (and how) you can free up memory:

  1. remove all unused applications, games, photos, videos (how to do this - //ocomp.info/kak-udalit-prilozheniya-s-android.html);
  2. purchase an SD memory card and transfer some documents and files to it;
  3. use cloud services (for example, Yandex Disk), transfer photo and video materials to them;

Infecting your phone with viruses

Many people mistakenly believe that viruses were somewhere on computers, and remained there, along with Windows XP (after all, Windows 10 has a built-in defender ) .

In fact, there are more viruses than it might seem at first glance (and not all of them are seen by Windows Defender), and there are already enough of them for Android. Moreover, viruses that infect phones are very insidious, most of them do not give themselves away until they get access to your funds ...

The most common signs of an Android infection:

  1. errors, reboots, installation failures and application crashes (including games!);
  2. banners, advertising (and where it was not there before);
  3. spontaneous installation of some applications;
  4. blocking a number of sites (most often with antivirus software);
  5. loss of money from the phone (for example, your balance may be reset to zero).

To help, I will give a couple of links to my previous articles. With their help, you can check (if you suspect) your device, restore its performance and prevent the loss of funds in time.

High load and temperature of phone components

In technical terms, a phone is not much different from a computer: the same transistors, resistors and other elements located in a compact case. And in the process of work - they also heat up (most often, the processor goes beyond the optimal values under high load).

But when the threshold of the optimal temperature value is exceeded, the protection may work for the processor - it will begin to reduce its performance (by dropping frequencies). At this time, games and applications will start to freeze (and possibly crash).

Therefore, when faced with the incorrect operation of a number of games (and they create a heavy load on the CPU), pay attention to the temperature of the device. To view all the sensors on the phone, I recommend installing the AIDA 64 application (more details about it here). See screenshot below.

We look at the temperature of the components of the phone

What is considered normal temperature: if at high CPU load, its t-pa does not go beyond the range of 50-55 ° C.

Anything above - requires special care. As a rule, at 55 ° C - the body of the device starts to warm up and it becomes not very comfortable to hold it in your hands.

Important!

High temperature of phone components can cause explosion or fire of the battery!

If you feel that the phone has become very hot, turn off the device (if the problem is intermittent, take the device for diagnostics to a service center).

But in general, usually, if the phone is working properly (and this is not a cheap Chinese little-known company), the ambient temperature is room temperature - then you need to try hard to heat the device to a significant temperature (many hours of gaming marathon, watching high-quality video, etc.).

Nevertheless, I still highly recommend looking at the readings of the sensors (especially if the problem does not arise with one particular game, but with many ...).

Add-ons are welcome ...

Good luck!
