How to transfer a photo from a camera to a computer

User question

Hello.

Tell me how you can upload a photo from the camera to a computer if there is no USB cable for it (apparently not provided, I tried to connect it with a cable from the phone - but complete invisibility ...), and there is simply no SD card reader on either the laptop or the PC ... Sob sob...

Hello.

Obviously, you need to order a mini USB-card reader and not suffer 👌 ... However, it is quite possible that you have a modern camera with support for Wi-Fi connection (which is why there was no USB cable). This means that file transfer is simplified several times ...

Be that as it may, as an example, I will briefly consider all the popular ways of how you can easily and simply transfer a photo from a camera to a PC.

And so ... 👇

Methods for transferring pictures from the camera to a PC

Option 1: via USB connection

Perhaps this is the most obvious and widespread option (fortunately, most cameras have USB ports). The process itself usually consists of just a few steps.

1) First, connect the camera to the computer with a USB cable (the most standard cable is used, at one end of which there is a Micro-USB plug, at the other - the classic one, see the screen below).

2) After that, you need to check that the camera is turned on and active (that is, that its screen is not extinguished ... 👀).

3) If you have a modern Windows 10 OS, then it will automatically select and install the driver, and literally in 5-10 seconds. the camera can be seen in "On my computer" (open the explorer with the keyboard shortcut Win + E) .

My computer - opening the camera

If in "On my computer" there is no camera - check again the USB cable (to which the device was connected), and try using the Driver Booster utility to update the driver for it (the utility will do this in auto mode).

4) Usually, there are several folders in the camera's memory (SD card). The one in which the photographs, in 99% of cases are called "DCIM".

DCIM - folder with photos

In general, by opening this folder, all you have to do is copy the photos that you need (this is done in a standard way, as with operations with any other files ... 👇).

Option 2: via SD card

1) First you need to turn off the camera, remove the SD card from it and connect it to the laptop (PC) port.

If a Micro-SD card is used, then before connecting it, you must insert it into the special. adapter (included with the SD card).

2) Next, you need to open the explorer (Win + E combination) and go to "This computer" ... If everything is in order with the memory card, it will be displayed there along with your hard drives. All that remains is to open it ...

If there is no SD card reader

Some laptops and PCs do not have a built-in card reader. However, this is not a reason to sprinkle ashes on your head 👌 - now there are a lot of external USB card readers on sale (the issue price is several hundred rubles).

Among them there are models the size of an ordinary flash drive, and there are more functional devices (see photo below 👇).

👉 By the way!

The following card readers can be bought from AliExpress online store. How to do it ->

Option 3: via Wi-Fi / Bluetooth

Modern cameras have Wi-Fi (Bluetooth) modules in their arsenal. Thanks to this, you can easily and quickly transfer photos from them to any device connected to your home Wi-Fi network (for example).

I'll show you how this is done on a typical Canon device.

1) First you need in the camera settings turn on Wi-Fi (by default it is off), select the type of wireless network "Infrastructure Mode" and connect to your home Wi-Fi network (by entering its password and login).

Search for access points

2) Further on the computer (laptop) from which you want to access the camera - you need to install a special. EOS Utility (link to Canon official site).

3) After that, just run this utility and you will be able to download images to your computer, control shooting from a distance, change camera settings, etc. Conveniently?!
